Relational Devotion #26 [Whose fault is it?]
Hi, Everyone.
Today's devotion seemed like a natural progression from yesterday's, so it's another devotion that might make you say, "Ouch!" at first, but, hopefully, you'll soon be saying, "I needed that." I do love hearing from each of you. I learn so much from you and am so blessed by you!
Relational Devotion #26 [Whose fault is it?]
John 19:15-16
"'Away with Him,' [the crowd] yelled. 'Away with Him! Crucify Him!'
'What? Crucify your king?' Pilate asked.
'We have no king but Caesar,' the leading priests shouted back.
Then Pilate turned Jesus over to them to be crucified."
The people shouting "Crucify Him! Crucify Him!" had hailed Jesus as their king just days before (John 12:12-13). Perhaps we have done a similar thing. We may have entrusted our life to God, only to discover that the life of faith wasn't quite what we had in mind.
The people in Jerusalem, even Jesus' disciples, lost hope as Jesus hung on the cross. But three days later, they discovered that even death gave way to God's power. The path of pain and death led to the greatest of victories--the Resurrection!
What this has to do with weight loss: Those of us on this weight-loss journey would like nothing more than a quick fix for our problems or an easy way out of our pain. Perhaps, as believers, when we realize that the road to a thinner, healthier person is laborious and painful, even with God's help, we may be tempted to blame God, to turn away from Him. After all, He's God; He could instantly take away our food issues, our health issues, our pain! What we must realize is that God sees what is behind all our issues, and He loves us too much to take away the consequences but leave the mess that brought us to this place. If we don't lose hope, and if we will courageously walk the painful path to surrender and death of "self," we will see that this necessary "death" will give way to God's power. We will see a most wonderful "resurrection" of the person God meant for us to be, all along--healthy, happy, and whole.
Today, reflect on whom you blame for stalls or setbacks. Determine to surrender to the process, however painful or laborious, and work with God, not against Him. Watch and listen to a mime group from Norway, as they perform "Who Am I?" by Casting Crowns.
