Relational Devotion #25 [Denial]
Hi, Everyone.
Today's devotion is one of those "That hurt, by I needed it" kind of devotions, at least I pray that is so. I look forward to hearing from you.
Relational Devotion #25 [Denial]
John 18:25
"Meanwhile, as Simon Peter was standing by the fire warming himself, they asked him again, 'You're not one of His disciples, are you?' He denied it, saying, 'No, I am not.'"
Peter denied Jesus not only once but three times, despite his earlier assurances of loyalty. We have often done the same thing. We have professed our faith, only to turn around and deny our faith, even if only that we are silent about our faith. Peter meant well when he assured Jesus of his loyalty, but he still failed. Yet his failure was not the end of the story, as we shall see later in the Book of John, just as our faith relapses don't have to be the end of our faith journey story. With Jesus, there is always opportunity for restoration.
What this has to do with weight loss: In my faith journey walk, I have denied Christ's lordship with a knife and fork. It was a crucial area in my life, one which caused me much pain, because I knew what I was doing and what I should have been doing. Perhaps you have experienced the same. We have all denied Christ, in some way. Perhaps your denying Christ came when you asked Him for supernatural help for weight loss, but decided that you did not like that He asked for 99% of your "natural" be put before His 1% "super." Perhaps your denying Christ came when you experienced success, like arriving in Onederland or reaching your goal weight, but you did not give glory to God. Denying Christ is a relationship issue and will cause you pain, but with Jesus, there is always opportunity for restoration.
Today, reflect on how you may be denying Christ in your life. Watch this short dramatization of Peter's denying Christ 3 times, and listen to the song by "Jesus," paying special attention to the last line, which is the key to restoration.
