Relational Devotion #14 [Now, I see]
Hi, Everyone.
This is my last devotion of the week and for a week. Cindy, Kathi, and Christy have volunteered to post for me for the coming week. I'll be getting those devotions to you today or tomorrow, girls, so be looking for them.
My VSG surgery is Monday at 7 a.m. CST, and I appreciate your prayers. While I anticipate coming through just fine, there is always a risk, with any surgery, but I want you to know that if it is determined that I have "fulfilled the number of my days," I am ready to go. I have Jesus in my heart, so I know God would welcome me. Death holds no fear for me. What joy there is, in life and in death, when one knows the Savior!
John 9:6-7
"Then [Jesus] spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man's eyes. He told him, 'Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam' (Siloam means 'sent'). So the man went and washed and came back seeing!"
Just picture that! Jesus spits, makes mud, and rubs it on a blind man's eyes. I don't know about you, but my first reaction is "Oo." Then I think, "Wow! That man had spectacular, spiritual spit on his eyes!" Why? Because Jesus wanted the man to walk to the Pool of Siloam and wash the mud off. He wanted the man to make the decision to obey, to be willing to do "the hard thing," which, for him, would have been to make the trek down the hill to the pool, even though he could not see the way. He did, and he came back with his sight, both physical and spiritual.
What this has to do with weight loss: Obese believers often pray for God to take away their desire for food. The better prayer would be, "God, help me to eat with thanksgiving and discipline." God will do His part, if you will do your part. It will not be easy, but God always honors obedience.
Today, what would you like to see "healed" in your life? Are you willing to "do the hard thing," to receive your healing? If you're interested in the historical and archaeological evidence of Bible accuracy, watch a 7-minute [or so] video of the excavation of the Pool of Siloam

Hi, Emily.
Thank you for your kind words. It's all God, because I'm not that smart. :) I, too, prayed long and hard for God to take away my desire for food. He finally explained to me that answering that prayer could prove life-threatening, and He loves me too much to say "yes" to that prayer. That made sense. We have to eat, after all. To learn to eat with thanksgiving and with discipline is the key, so that is what I was to pray for assistance in. I've lost a total of 60 lbs. since last May, so God has blessed my obedience. He's awesome like that. :)
Blessings,
Mary
