Devotion #17
Hi, Everyone.
I need to hear from you by post reply or profile message, not necessarily what you think of these devotions (although that's always fun for me) but that you are reading these devotions. I need feedback today, please. I want to see how many are accessing this devotion on the Christianity forum.
Today's devotion is from my personal journal dated April 25, 2007.
This morning I awoke at 3:30, so I had my Quiet Time (Bible reading and prayer). As I got quiet before the Lord, I asked Him to show me what He wanted to give to me today. The song Have Thine Own Way came to me. I began to sing, "Have thine own way, Lord. Have thine own way. Thou art the Potter; I am the clay. Mold me and make me after thy will, while I am waiting, yielded and still."
I knew that "clay in the Potter's hand" was the topic for today. Through my concordance, I found Jeremiah 18:3-4, 6 which says, "I went down to the potter's house, and behold, he was working at the wheel. And the vessel that he was making from clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he made it over, reworking it into another vessel as it seemed good to the potter to make it... 'Can I not do with you as this potter does?' says the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand..."
One would think that "spoiled" clay is thrown out, but it isn't--not in The Potter's (God's) hands. A bit more water is added, and the clay is pounded down, softened, and reworked. It was a moment when I could envision the process. I could see that the clay is me.
Oh, Father, are You sure? Are You absolutely sure that You can, that You will take this old lump of clay that is me and rework me into a vessel that is beautiful, no longer marred or spoiled, and useful to You? I heard His answer, "If it were not so, I would have told you."
Today, contemplate your vessel (spirit, mind, and body). Are you soft and malleable, so God can mold you, or have you allowed the cares of this world to harden you? Allow The Potter to do His work in you, and, very soon, your outside will mirror your inside.
Blessings,
Mary

Mary,
I ready your devotions daily and I love them. They give me hope and strength every day. I just started on this website about 3 weeks ago and this message board has been very reassuring. Your posts and Randalls posts are my "must reads" everyday.
Thanks for your dedications to your daily devotions.

Mary, Thank you for your daily devotions. I read them, along with Randall's uplifting posts, every single day. I use what I learn from you and apply it in our Sunday School class, in my personal devotions, and in my life. This is your ministry and we are better for it.

Thank you so much. I'm honored and humbled. God is so gracious, to allow me to share with others what He is teaching me through His Word and prayer. I am nobody special, in that He does not speak to me any more than He is willing to speak to others.
I see you're from South Carolina. I grew up in Columbia and then Charleston. My husband and I also lived in Columbia and Simpsonville (a suburb of Greenville). I don't get back there often, but I still feel southern, and my high school English students used to say that my southern would come out whenever I was annoyed at their talkative bent..."Now, y'all be quiet." ;)
Have a blessed night.

Mary I am weeping as I type. I always love your devotionals. I am so glad that God is patient with me. I also love how you are comfortable bearing your soul to others. I am much that way in person just because I can't be fake ( I would forget what I was tryng to be-LOL). We all minister in different ways and you minister to many through your sharing. On a side-note...I love i that you sing to God. I used to think I was really weird because I sand during or just prior to prayer. I then found so many others who do the same. Keep posting girl!!!
