Random Thoughts on Fathers Day

It has been 30 years since my father died at the age of 52. He was not a perfect man, but I loved him, and knew that he loved me. Since then, I raised three children, got a degree, started a career, and went through a horrible divorce, completed a Masters degree, had gastric bypass and buried two brothers. When Daddy died, I was 19, married and the mother of a one year old baby girl. I was also a baby Christian, the only believer in my family of origin. Today, I have no earthly father, or husband, no man in whom I can find security or an identity as a wife or daughter. Yet, in the past thirty years, I have begun to learn about my adopted heavenly father, Abba, Daddy. I know that He loves me, and that because of His love for me, and my faith in His Son Jesus, I have the Holy Spirit living in me, allowing me to experience His omnipresence. Do I still miss my Dad? Of course. I missed seeing his joy a****ching his grandchildren grow up, because he never knew my sons, or got to meet my precious granddaughter who turned one year old on the 14th. Do I miss my husband? Yes, at times I still miss him and our marriage. I miss the companionship and security that comes from the oneship of marriage. I dislike living alone and sleeping alone, and going through family tragedies, like my brothers' deaths, alone. Yet, the Lord's promises include me, and I know that while I might be alone in a physical, earthly sense, I am never alone in a spiritual sense. So, while I have no earthly Dad to buy a card or gift for this year, I do have a Heavenly Father to whom I can offer my life. You see, I offered my life to Him before, but I am an Indian giver, because I always have taken it back and tried to live it my way, do it my way, fix it my way. Submission to His will, and resting in Him have never been strong points for me. The beauty part of this equation is that the Lord does not hold a resentment, and He always welcomes me back to Himself with open arms, and a big hug, not, "How many times have I heard that one before? You told me that last time you gave me your life. Here we go again. Let's see how long it takes before you take your will back this time." So, I just needed to share where my heart and my head are this Fathers Day. I miss the earthly celebrations and people that made this holiday special for me in my childhood and marriage, but I love the Father who adopted me into His family, where I am no longer Fatherless, and I am eternally loved.

I'm 2 days late, but you sure did bless me! My Daddy passed away in 2000. He was my best friend. I too have been an Indian giver. I would give my life to God and take it back trying to live my own life. God has had to show me that I can not live my own life. I have a calling and I belong to Him. He is the most awesome Daddy I could ever want! Thank you again for blessing me this morning my friend! God bless and I love ya!
