Reverse Phone Directory/Google

Forward this to everyone you know... Google has a new feature - you type in your phone number in the search bar, and it pulls up your name and address (if your number is published). If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the person's house. Its a nationwide reverse phonebook. This can be a scary situation for many reasons. In oder to test if your number is mapped, go to google (http://www.google.com/) Type your number in the search bar (i.e.555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private info, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48 hours. This may not apply to you if you have an unlisted number or cell phone as primary contact, but you may know someone who needs to know this. I tried it, and my number and address came up, even though it is unlisted. Hugs, Trish

Wow I tried it and there I was. Not sure how I feel about that. Don't think I have any enemies, but I like how I could find other people. How's that for selfish, don't want my info out but want to find other peoples. Thanks for making us all aware tho.

Thanks for the info. We have Vonage so the lookup can't find us We have a # that is from a different town. Thanks again for the info.

Yes this is VERY scary. Unfortunately, this feature isn't new...that is why I periodically will 'Google' myself just to see what comes up!

Yet another good reason to have cell phones only. It gets worse though. If they know your address, they can get ariel(sp) maps via sattelite of you house-almost up to the minute. I was looking at these with a friend the other day of her house. She lives out in the country and was robbed. Technology is great, but there are some definite privacy issues that the laws just havent caught up with.
