Why We Believe Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8) Needless to say, we were not born believing in God. Somehow along the way we were introduced to God. There are four (4) distinct ways in which we have come to believe. TRADITION. Believing in God is not inherited. However, growing up around godly parents and grandparents sure did give us a good foundation. HUMAN REASONING. While our human logic is not always accurate, it helps to know that since God is our Creator, He is also our Provider and Sustainer. EXISTENTIAL ENCOUNTER. We come to believe based on our experiences. In other words, we learn to believe because of what has happened to us in the past. Then we realize that if God could deliver us once, He surely can do it again and again. BIBLE. The Word of God is our sole truth source. If God said it, it is settled in heaven. In order to get to know God, we need to read His word to find out what's on His mind and what's in His heart. The above information is based on last night's Christian Faith and Ministry class. Consider joining us in January for one of our Biblical or Theological courses. www.the-way-of-life.org Rev. Margaret Minnicks Director, The Way of Life
