Hi guys-I'm back Praise God!!!!
Hi everyone I missed you guys so much. I had to stay in Chicago for two weeks because my surgeon did not want me 10 hours away so we did.
I hated the hospital. Not because it was any particular hospital. I just do not like being hooked up to ivs and I had a foley(what fun hey??). I was so glad I got to go home(hotel) on the third day!! I know Stephanie has been keeping you guys updated so I'm sorry if I tell you all something you have heard before. Anyway I did not get the DS -but just half of it-the sleeve-and will get the other half in a year or so. He removed 90% of my stomach. When the doc got in there my fatty liver was too big so it was not safe to do it all at once. He is a great surgeon and I trust that he did what was best for me right now.
Anyway, I went to the doc for my first week checkup yesterday (it was actually 12 days because he sees patients only once a week and the last wed was too close to surgery date). Everything was great. The best thing though was when I stepped on the scales and thought I should put on my glasses because I must be reading it wrong. Nope -there it was- I have lost 22 lbs already. He said it was 7% of my weight I needed to lose ans dropped my BMI 4 points!! Plus I do not have to go back to see him for 6 weeks!!
I am feeling great guys. I was so afraid of the pain, but they managed the little pain I had very well and now I do not even need tylenol and its just 2 weeks tomorrow. I could not eat much for two days, but now I am eating anything I can puree. They said I could have tuna and canned chicken w mayo so I have been eating that a lot and a lot of eggs w cheese. I'm getting about 80g of protein in a day. I hate the regular shakes so I just buy the sugar free carnation and add 2 packs to 16 oz of milk. I can drink that in about an hour and it is 24 g of protein and it tastes just like chocolate milk. I even went outto eat at Chillis the other day w my hubby and had soup. I did throw up once because I ate too fast(eating in the car has been banned since) and it was not fun but other than that no queesiness or anything no matter what I eat-of course I do stick to the diet which is low fat pureed foods, but I'm feeling good so thats OK. 1 more week and I can go on to soft foods.
I am so happy...I feel like I have a second chance at life. I think in terms of when I can do things rather than if. I give God all the glory for my happiness and my easy recovery thus far because without HIm I would not be able to stand. It is for Him that I need to lose this weight. My family will benefit too but my future is serving God as He sees fit.
Anyway-thank you all for your prayers and warm wishes and your kind words on my surgery page. I will read the board tomorrow and post. I just got back from a 2 hour grocery shopping trip BY MYSELF (well I drove and took my 11 year old and 4 year old) so I am really tired and going to bed. I love you all and will see you in the AM-hugs-Amy
Oh Amy that is great news..I am unfamiliar with the DS and sleeve...but that doesn't matter. What matters is you are fine and doing so great!! What a great loss and you are getting in that much protein...Girl you are doing better than I did for sure. I cannot imagine you going food shopping with a 4yr old at two weeks out!
Your statement of not IF but WHEN was great...we all need to focus on that...there is not limit to what the Lord can do in us and through us with this life saving tool we have been given.
May the Lord continue to bless your efforts and obedience to Him and this surgery.
In His love,
Joan M
I forgot to mention. I drink the Carnation Instant Breakfasts, but I add AnyWhey protein powder to it and that boosts the protein content. The AnyWhey is flavorless and a scoop of it has 17 grams of protein. I use a scoop of that, and with the instant breakfast powder and 8 ounces of milk, I have 30 grams of protein.
Just a suggestion.
Hugs,
Trish
