I had RNY surgery on Tuesday. Praise God that everything went smoothly. I know that I was so calm that morning becuase of all the prayers that were said for me. Thank you. I went home last night and I am having stabbing stomach pain when I try to get out of bed or change position. I am talking pain med every 4 hrs as perscribed, but the stabbing pain is still there when I move. I would appreciate prayers and words of encourgament. Thanks, and God bless

I had the same problem. Getting out of bed or changing position was horrendous. Be sure to walk as much as you can and drink as much water as you can. I ended up with dehydration and pneumonia and had to return to the hospital the following week, my pain was so bad. I didn't breathe into that thing-a-ma-jig they give you enough and was staying with friends who are both chain smokers so I got pneumonia and then I had diarrhea really bad and got dehydrated. It does get better though. It truly does. I'm a year and a half out and I forget how it was until I read a post like yours and it reminds me how far I have come. You have my prayers! Hang in there! It does get better. Love, Joni

What you describe is actually the only pain I ever had....it's that certain turn as you get in and out of the bed....very painful. I think it took me at least 20 minutes to get out of the bed to make my 5 minute walk in the hall of the hospital....and of course, followed by an excruciating 20 minutes to get back in the bed. However, it is important that you move about and if you were given an incentive spirometer at the hospital...continue to use it. If you have to cough and it hurst ....hug a pillow. You are in my prayers. Get rest and gain your strength. God is watchin' over ya'!

I do remember that pain getting in and out of bed. Also, the coughing hurt. The more you walk, and drink your fluids, you will feel better. Keep doing the breathing exercises and the coughing. It does get better. I promise you. Right now, I am not a poster child for that, but I do know that I recovered rather quickly, and I had open RNY. Hugs, Trish
