Here I go!!! Actually, I started yesterday and did very well, if I do say so myself. We ordered Chinese food for dinner, and I measured mine out. My kids and I joked about how after surgery I'll be eating 1/2 of even that. But those beastly kids tried to tempt me with chocolate covered pretzels. The nerve!!! I explained that I don't want to make any trouble for my surgeon. I want her to have all the room she needs in there to maneuver and do things right. This is great. It's not about deprivation or weight or starving or sacrifice or numbers. It's about doing what's best for my body at this stage. And it's about being able to look toward the future. It's saying, "I'm doing this today because I want good results down the line." And it's seeable, and doable, and real because of all of the success stories I see right here on this site.

Jill, It is so good that you are setting an example for your kids. And, yes, kids can be terrible in putting food that is tempting in front of you. I have to confess, I did not follow any particular diet prior to my surgery, and for a few weeks, I did the "Last Supper Syndrome" with some hot fudge sundaes every other day. Still, in spite of that, I lost weight between my consult and my surgery date. The beauty part of this is that now, five months later, I do not miss any of those sweet things. I think the trauma of the surgery, and the six weeks of liquid, pureed, and soft foods, snapped my brain into wanting to eat healthy. I have also found healthier, sugar free alternatives to sugary desserts. God is good in that He gives me what I need, when I need it. I want to glorify Him with my food choices. What is funny now is that my son does not mind treating me to a meal at a restaurant because I am such a cheap date. If you ever need to talk, I can give you my number. Hugs, Trish

Yippee Jill!!! That's great. Get those kids away from you with those nasty treats. Get yourself some nice safe treats...Like for me, the sugar free, decaf mocha internation coffee is such a yummy treat. (ok, I have it all the time, but it's still a treat!)... Take care!!! Carolyn

Thanks for the "treat" idea. I'll be sure to get some of that just for me!
