New to Board- Glory is His!

Hi Brenda!!! Welcome and thank you for the beautiful prayer at the beginning of your message. Yes - may the glory be all HIS!
My doc and nut also don't want us to take protein supplements. I'm going through Kaiser Permanente - are you also? Cuz we had a 1200 calorie diet that we were to use to lose 10% before surgery. Sounds similar. BUT BACK TO THE PROTEIN - I am 3 months post op and have not used a protein supplement, but I'm considering getting one to add to my morning decaf. My energy is pretty good, but I think I could use a boost. Plus, my hair is falling out pretty quickly, and that's not pleasant - and maybe not necessary if I were getting a bit more protein. I can't advise you, but for me, I'm going to look into the supplements. I have a friend who had the surgery 3 months before me, and has never used the supplements and never felt that she needed them - no hair loss, high energy. Maybe it's a "wait and see" kind of thing.
Anyway - this is the day that the Lord has made - I will rejoice and be glad in it!!!

I cannot give you permission to deceive you doctor because you disagree with him about protein drinks. Very respectfully, I see a VAST difference between your situation and Rahab's. There are others on the main message board who's doctors feel the same as your doctor. If you feel strongly enough about the need for protein drinks after surgery then tell your doctor you are going to do this or get a new doctor who agrees with you. I am very concerned about starting off your relationship with your doctor by deceiving him. Please rethink this.

Brendo,
My surgeon feels the same way. I had surgery 6 months ago and my labs are great. I followed my surgeons advice and ate three bites of protein to one bite of vegs. I still have days where I am tired but they are improving everyday. I feel it is still an ajustment to the surgery. I feel so much better than before surgery that these tiring days are a piece of cake. Please follow your surgeons advice and if you notice a problem discuss it with him. I'm sure if you need the protein that he would tell you to take it.
God Bless,
Cathy
Hi Brenda!
Welcome! You are in for quite a ride! How's the weather out there? Never mind...lol..I know how it is...lol. I used to live in Renton!
I could not tolerate the thickness/consitency of protein drinks. I am almost a year out...and have only recently found one I can stomach. Every one is different...and your tastes/preferences change after your surgery. I had bought a whole bunch of different kinds of powders...but they ended up being wasted.
I have been lucky enough to be able to get my protein from my food. So far...my labs are GREAT!!!
Good luck on your journey!
Love,
Stephanie

Hey Brenda. God bless you for that awesome prayer. Welcome to the board and CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming surgery! WOO HOO! I can't help you much here either. You'll just have to pray for God's guidance in what your decision should be. Personally, I couldn't imagine my life w/o my protein powder shakes. They are so helpfull. I believe they are one reason (with God's awesome help too) that I haven't lost more of my hair.
As some say "Money cometh", I say "Hair Cometh"! AMEN!
God bless you my friend on your journey. Get ready for the journey of a lifetime! Randall

THANKS to all who have replied privately and to those who posted here as well.
I am greatful for all who have shared advise. I can assure you that I will BE TRUTHFUl and tell my Nutritionist and Dr. when I have added a scoop of added protein somewhere. One spoonful of Protein and one spoonful of veggies- maybe blending it together in mash potatoes? Like cooked frozen green peas soft, mushy ??
Ok- any added ideas of the first 10 days out of surgery would truly bless me folks.
I am hearing that sipping is aggrevating if you do NOT slow it down and pace it through the time allotted before next eating,
I am hearing that getting up to walk in the first 5 days as best and as much as you can tolerate is essential to push the built up gas that causes pains
I am hearing that liquid tylenol is a MUST
I am hearing that plenty of rest and even knock out sleep is good the first 7 days out
Please let me hear more on this thread.
God is good- ALL THE TIME, even in our down time.
Remember to pray, praise and petition for others who are weaker vessels - all things work together to them that love God...GLORY I LOVE WALKING IN JESUS!
Blessings in His Service,
BrendaO
