Hi Beverly. I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I had surgery due to colon cancer in 2001. I had chemo for several months but it was a mild form so I didn't lose my hair & had little nausea. My biggest complications were diarrhea & a major depression. I felt there was no hope. i weighed nearly 350 at the time of surgery. I still take one day at a time but things look brighter now. All my recent tests have been good. I had Rny in June of 2005 & weighed in @ 177 this am. I feel much better & am much more mobile. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Best of luck! Kathy C.

Hi there, I had RNY 6 months ago and was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 weeks ago. Last week I had a TRAM flap delay surgery and in 2 weeks will have a mastectomy and reconstruction. The surgeon wanted to so the TRAM in 2 stages as he hasn't done this on a post-op RNY patient before. I'm wondering how cancer and it's treatment has affected others weight loss. I have lost 58 pounds at this point, which my program seems to think is slow. To me that is 58% of my excess weight, and I am thrilled with it. Any words of advice or info? Thanks, Lisa

Topic: RE: Kidney Cancer
Can't believe I just found this board and also that there so many of us who have had our right kidney removed due to cancer. I was diagnosed with renal cell of the right kidney in Feb 2001 - had my kidney removed - lap-hand assist and so far so good. As soemone else mentioned - it is scary that after five years they don't need to do the 6 month checkups. I was 49 when diagnosed and had no symptoms - found accidently while being checked for diverticulitis. I had the LapBand surgery in Sept 2004 - so far I have not been successful with it. I wonder if RNY is the right thing for me now. Still morbidly obese, high BP, prediabetic and only one kidney. It is frightening to me what will happen if I do not lose weight. Thanks for letting me vent. A cancer diagnosis does make one's life different - I feel I was spared for a reason - but I'm not holding up my end of the bargain. Paula L. (Ohio)

I had rencal cell carcinoma aka kidney cancer. I had my right kidney removed July 13, 2005. I also did not require other treatments. I do still have to see my dr every 6 months. I had my WLS March 14, 2006. I do get a little concerned that too much protein is not good for the kidneys. I get nervous with having only the 1 kidney. Good luck to you, Dotty

I just found out I have colon cancer. The tumor was big (not sooo big after biopsy) and do to my size they aren't sure whether they want to do surgery at all. They think I'm a poor surgical risk. Has any one else been through this? What happened? Bev :snif:

Has anyone here had Large Granula Lymphoma? This has not yet been diagnosed but is suspected. I have been seeing a Hemotoligist/Oncologist for a few months. I have a VERY low WBC & EXTREMELY low ANC. She is now sending me to another Hemotoligist Oncologist that is more experienced in this blood disorder. My nutritional labs are all good. I am receiving Neupogen injections, but so far they are not working. I would appreciate any coments you might have. I had my RNY 10/7/04

Welcome sister! I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1998 and last year was the first year with a negative amount of cancer cells in my body. I was 35 at the time of my diagnosis; the strain is called water and had spread throughout my lower body but was stage 2B, so not as strong as some. I had my RNY on May 8th and am pretty tired, but it has been worth it. I have lost about 40 lbs so far since I am considered a "lightweight". The best thing is to keep up with your CA125 tests. They say that your immune system can be compromised due to the surgery and a recurrence can happen. I am believing that I'll be ok, but I am going to keep up with my checkups. Good luck to you! Topic: Gallstones, Breast Cancer and Radiation, oh my!
I am a breast cancer survivor who has successfully gone through radiation a few months back. Well, I was just diagnoised with gall stones and need to take my gallbladder out. Is there a connection? What can I expect? I am disappointed with the news.

My hair started to grow back exactly 4 weeks after my last chemo treatment. It was as if my body was waiting for my next chemo treatment after 3 weeks and, when it didn't happen, it gave the ok for my hair to grow back I am sorry that you are having problems. I am glad that the cat scan came back clear. Our CA-125 can jump up and down for a while because of the chemo. Congrats on the weight loss as well. I will be sending prayers and happy thoughts to you Karen
