Topic: I posted this on the main board earlier, but does anyone know anything about Schwannoma's?
Post Date: 12/12/07 3:42 pm I have been having outer left leg numbness above my knee all the way to my hip for a long time. I never really gave it a second thought because it never bothered me any, I always thought it was caused by me gaining weight over the last 7-10 years. Anyhow right after my bypass surgery "Oct 1, 07" I started having shooting burning type of pains when ever I got up from sitting or laying down. I went to my Pcp a few weeks ago she ordered an MRI on my back and left side. Well I got the results from it today, the doctor *****ad it said it was a fatty tumor or a Schwannoma, it is 7 mm by 5 mm in size and its located on my thecal sac on the L2 spine level. The report said all my disk spaces are well maintained, there are no disk bulges or protusions. There are no lesions and everything around the L1 level has a normal appearance & no masses are seen. I was happy to hear that, but the other possibilities it says here on my paper that it could also be Neurofibroma, mixed tumor and metastasis, but these entities are less likely. Well that may be but still I looked everything up online and it all points to cancer and tumors in someway . The doctor is a having me referred to a Neurosurgeon on Jan 2nd too see if they think the thing should be removed or not. He would not tell me anything further. Ofcourse I am scared to death, and but I have no choice but to waqit until then to find out what it actually is and can be done. My mother had a Schwannnoma on her upper back not too long ago and they cut it out, I read they can be inherited. I was wondering if any of ya'll ever had one, or knew someone who had/has one and what happened with it all? I am not looking for medical advice just personal advice and experience with it. Any and all replies are welcome. Oh yeah please dont tell me to talk it over with my Pcp or the other doc they wont say anything more to me about it. Thanks.........

Topic: RE: Colon Cancer / Chemo / Bypass Surgery
Hi David.  I just found out about this forum.  I was diagnosed with colon cancer in May 2006 just before my gastric bypass surgery.  That surgery was postponed so that I could have my right side of my colon and appendix removed.  Out of 40 lymph nodes, the cancer had only spread to one.  I was a stage III.  I did the 6 months of chemotherapy and I was able to have my rny on July 30, 2007.  If you need to talk, please feel free to email me anytime.  I know what you are going through and I know it is not easy.  But know that you are in my prayers and I wish the very best for you.  Keep your head up and know that you are not alone. Darla

Topic: OH Events contest: where do YOU want us to come?
The 2007 event year is quickly coming to its end. We've had a lot of fun, met hundreds of people, made new friends, strengthened each other, and empowered ourselves to continue on our journeys. With the close of the 2007-year, our eyes turn to the future, to 2008. Where will we go? Our team has analyzed locations, researched demographics, met with support groups, consulted with area professionals for hours.. and HOURS.. and hours! We do this because YOU are worth it. It is our goal to reach out to as many people as possible. But, we can't decide where to kick off the 2008 year! We've arm wrestled, had ping pong tournaments, basketball games and other battles of wills. So... we need your help to make this decision! We're having a contest. Where do YOU want us to come to? Let us know! For the month of November, we will leave this post up. Reply and shout out to us where you want us to come to. If you have ever wished for OH to come to your area, now's the time to speak up! Get your friends, surgeon and support group involved! Simple reply to this post and let us know the area you want us to come to. At the end of November, we will count up all of the votes and we will make the announcement in December. Rules of the game: -Since this is a member's contest, you must be a member to vote -Each member can only vote once for the same area -Members CAN vote for multiple locations -One post, one vote. If you want to vote for another location, make a separate reply. -All votes have to be a reply to this one of the 'contest' posts -Due to logistics, we may not be able to come to the exact city requested, but we will come to that 'area' as close as possible. So now is the time to let your voice be heard! Where do YOU want us to come to?
