I'm glad to see you post.  I am doing really well I go back to the Dr's in Aug.  I am going to have to have the hernia repaired that's a given.  I am hoping that I am still cancer free.  I have a very rare form of cancer and if I do ever need some kind of treatments it won't be chemo or radiation.  They said it would be hormone therapy.  I had stage 3, and was so lucky to have had wls.  I know that if I hadn't had wls they would never of found it.  I am so proud of you, you have done so well I am not so sure that I would be as good as you are with it all.  I feel I am not humble enough that I need to feel a differant way because I was so lucky, or that I didn't deserve to be well.  Geeze I don't know why I feel that way but I have since I had my last surgery.  I don't feel I am a better person or anything like that, which I should my kids think I am kinda a butttt whole any more.  I don't go any where with anyone or want to be around people at all. I would rather stay at home alone and just be by myself.  Maybe I will feel different after this next surgery.  I sure hope so.  I am about tired of it.  I hope you get the surgery that you need, I am a DS'er and I know I am glad I had that instead of the RNY.  I know you have to find what's best for you.  I wish you all the best with that and I know you will feel much better after all is said and done.  Keep me posted with your WLS journey and may the Good Lord smile upon you. Marylin, I am new to the OH site so I just happen to stumble upon the cancer section.  I would hate to see this part of the forum dismantle as I am a two time cancer survivor and in the process of WLS.  In June, 2003 I was diagnosed with colo-rectal cancer and had to have my entire colon and rectum removed (yes, I have a "pouch".. and ileostomy to be precise).  One year later, July, 2004, I was diagnosed with squameous cell carcenoma of 4 lymph nodes, a tumor in my pelvic area and vaginal cancer.  Because the cancer had spread so much another surgery was out of the question and so I went through a heavy duty treatment of chemo and radiation.  I follow my oncologist guidelines and am in for my followup test every three months.  With all my doctors blessings I am now starting the WLS process.  Because I am prone to urinary tract infections (due to the ostomy) the lapband was not an option for me... all my drs and surgeons recommend the gastric sleeve.  I know that the gastric by-pass is tried and true but I'm already living without my large intestines, so I don't want my small intestines messed with.   I'm so glad that you opted for WLS and they found the cancer before it got to the point of no return!  I honestly believe that having cancer has made me a better and stronger person.  I no longer take a single moment for granted.  I refused to let cancer take my life and now I have that determination concerning my weight.  Why would I fight the battle of my life twice only to fail because of all this excess weight I am carrying around!   I pray this finds you doing well and please stay in touch.   Katherine

It looks like this forum has lost it's interest.  I am not sure anyone is out there at all.  I am 2 yrs post-op and if I hadn't had WLS no one would of ever found out I had cancer.  I had colon resection by my WL surgeon and haven't had to have any other treatment so far.  I hope there are others out there that have good news, I wonder about the others that have posted and there are no answers out there.   If no one is posting or reading this forum maybe it needs to just be dismanteled.

Wow your situation moves me excessively!  First of all you will be in my prayers!  Angela if I may I'm going to recommend doing what most body builders would do when trying to gain weight.  Accompany a protein shake with your meals that you're eating.  It'll be like have 2 meals together.  This would probably be the safest and fastest way to help you and completely harmless! I hope your travels come and go without pain my friend.  Take good care of  yourself!

Hi Barbara There are a few places you can get info about cancer if you can get on the net. Cancer.org is one. Also check your phone book for the American Cancer Society there use to be an 800 number. They also have information for you and maybe a support group. Now you know what I am going to say next, don't feel like it is your fault. What would you tell you children if they said something like that and you were ill. You must take care of yourself before you can help anyone else. Sending prayers for your Mom and family. Sorry Barbara I didn't notice what date this was written. By now you most likely know more then you wanted to know about cancer. Janie

Topic: RE: I posted this on the main board earlier, but does anyone know anything about Schwannoma's?
I'm new here just wanted to know how things turned out for you and if you found the answers you were looking for.  I am hoping all is going well for you.  They found colon cancer after I had my WLS and my same surgeon did the resection for me, I didn't as of yet have to have any other treatment.  I went to see my cancer doc in Feb and she wanted me back in 6 months.  I was kinda confussed because I was doing yearlys.  She took me off some of my blood pressurer meds, I got sick and had to go to my reg PCP with chest pains.  I did a stress test and echo gram last week.  I have something wrong with a valve that is letting flow back, looks like I am going to a specialist this week to see what they can do for me now.    I hope to hear from you and see how your doing. Topic: melanoma and gastric bypass surgery
hi everyone,i'm new to obesity.com and don't know my way around well yet.i posted this question on regular wls forum and someone suggested this site,so here goes.i had a malignant melanoma of my left eye in oct 2005 and had to have my eye removed.luckily, the cancer was encassed in the eyeball alone and had not metastasized anywhere.i've been clear for two years.while getting worked up for gastric bypass surgery, the hospital i chose, told me at the last minute that the doctors their will not due the surgery yet,as too soon since had cancer, and due to the malabsorption factor, they feel any dormant cells could become cancerous due to info they have.they offered to do lapband only.i spoke with my doctor, and due to more health problems croping up,and already being 310 pounds, she and i both feel bypass only option to get weight off quickly.my first question is ,has anyone else been told that about having a melanoma and not being able to have bypass?or has anyone had surgery after melanoma and done well.there is another area hospital that may still perform bypass, not lap band.i see doctor in march.i would appreciate any info anyone has.at this point,i feel if i don't get significant weight off soon,i won't be able to work and health will get much worse,so am willing to risk. thanks in advance for any  info provided.  joann

Topic: RE: Recurrence of Malignant Melamona

dear patti, just saw this posting from 2006.hope all is well.i came to this forum through a suggesion from another forum site participant.i had a malignant melanoma in my left eye in oct 2005 and had to have my left eye removed.so far no spread, but checked annually.i'm getting ready to have gastric bypass, and the hospital i was going with now says they can't do because too soon after melanoma, and that due to nutritional malabsorption after surgery, could spawn any dormant cancer cells in my body according to their medical directors info.can't find any correlateing info anywhere.have you heard anything to that effect? thanks for any info you have.  joann

Topic: RE: During my pre-op tests I was diagnosed with breast cancer
I had a similiar experience, but it was lung cancer, found when doing preop xray. I feel as though this surgery has already saved my life once. The tumor was small and sugically removed in april 2007. I am now scheduled for wls Feb. 12, 2008. It's been kind of a longer time frame and a few hurdles with insurance co.but here I am back where I started from! Very nervous since just going through a surgery so recently, but am excited too. It is very important to me and my health and quality of life to be able to have the surgery. I keep thinking something else will happen, but I am praying for smooth sailing for the rest of the cruise. Beat of luck to you, we really have been so fortunate and blessed already. I believe someone out there is watching over and taking care of me. Try to keep a positive attitude, it's just a small glitch in a long life.
