Topic: RE: Any dealt with Barrett's Esophagus and RNY?
Hi!

Well, I am now about 3 1/2 months out from surgery, and things are going well. My surgeon had me on Prevacid Solutabs for 6 weeks after, and that's it. I was on those before I had the surgery.  What times I have panicked and thought that I was having a bout of gastric reflux, was actually a fullness sensation. I've gone from 174 to 155 and am delighted with that, anything under 160 is just wonderful.

I am to have endoscopy once a year to keep tabs on the Barrett's.

I don't say that to scare anyone, I say it as an advocate.

NO WOMAN WHO IS PRE-MENOPAUSAL SHOULD RELY ON MAMMOGRAPHY ALONE FOR DETECTION OF CANCER.

Always get it backed up with an ultrasound, or ask your doctor to order an MRI for you.  If you feel a lump, you can have it biopsied.  That is the only way to tell for sure if it's cancerous.

I had a mammogram that detected 2 places. Ultrasound, MRI w/ contrast and 2 biopsies said atypical but no cancer. I elected to have a bi-lateral mastectomey based on family history. 2 days after the mastectomy it was deterimned I have cancer. General surgeon is analyzing all the tests to see who dropped the ball!

Yes, I have this condition, and surgery has worked for me, and I was diagnosed with this condition prior to surgery.  I am supposed to get this checked every two years or so as well, because the doctor says it could lead to cancer someday if not kept on top of it..

Topic: Dr. Mario Alberto Almanza-Reyes
I was just posting this because I've had more people than I thought, write me and let me know how much their sorry and how they are praying. My momma is one of the nicest people out there, I wish that we can individually meet each and every person on this website that are planning on going to Dr. Almanza. I wish I could take you guys through a normal day in my life now that everything has messed up in my life. Going through my last summer as a high school student. I can't have fun... I won't have fun. I want justice to be served!!! I want to save someone's life. Please this is NO JOKE!! I wake up everyday and I think and pray about anybody who's in or going into surgery with Dr. Almanza... I pray for you guys. I don't even know you guys. My mom has been in ICU on a ventilator for 7 days now... my best friend... I can't go see her whenever I want to anymore... visiting hours are precise. My mom won't be able to see the 17th Anniversary of me arriving in this world, because she's too busy going through something that shouldn't have ever happened!!! DOCTORS MAKE MISTAKES... BUT WHAT KIND OF DOCTOR MAKES MISTAKES OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.. Yes, you might have had a WONDERFUL experience... but listen to the stories people.. just because you were lucky DOES NOT mean that everybody else was. There are many people around the United States and Canada that are dealing with their friends and/or family members DYING with deadly infections, holes in stomachs, esophagus, etc. You guys keep telling your friends to go.... and eventually, you are going to go through what me and my family and plenty other families are going through right now. I'm not trying to harsh Dr. Almanza's "mellow".... I am truly, honestly, and dedicative to preventing as many people from going to this doctor as possible. Please spend the extra money and getting done by someone who is, not only cheap and kind, but dedicated to helping you. Not a doctor who is just going to WHAM BAM over and never see you post-op (to many people). Please PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE..... I am not doing this to get back at Dr. Almanza or anybody that is working over there just because they've done this to my momma. I am doing this to prevent YOU from ever going through something like this. It IS NOT FUN.
Love always and forever,
Miranda

Many women who've had chemotherapy for breast cancer report gaining weight during the treatment, though the reasons for an expanding waistline are not yet well understood. The phenomenon is not seen in patients who have surgery alone, or surgery followed by radiation.

The following types of cancers are more prevalent in obese patients. Some of these cancers are four times more common in obese individuals than non-obese individuals.

* Breast cancer
* Uterine cancer
* Colon cancer
* Kidney cancer
* Esophageal cancer

Researchers of several studies funded by the National Cancer Institute are still investigating the relationship between obesity and cancer, including breast, colorectal, endometrial, esophageal, ovarian, and prostate cancers (National Cancer Institute 2004).

Many would say the benefits of weight loss surgery are obvious. You look better, you feel better, you're healthier, and you live longer. There are many common side effects of surgery, which clients obviously must decide for themselves if the potential benefits are worth the risks and inconveniences. There is an emerging trend however of a much more serious complication of unstable blood sugar.

There is a link between weight reduction through bariatric surgery and cancer prevention. Obesity is one of the many causes of certain cancers, but if the obesity is reversed, so is the likelihood of those cancers. A recent report estimated that in the United States, 14% of deaths from cancer in men, and 20% of cancer deaths in women are due to being overweight or obese.

Topic: RE: Surgery
Bariatric Surgery is a procedure performed on people who are dangerously obese, for the purpose of losing weight. Bariatric surgery is performed on the stomach and intestine causing a reduction of the patient's food intake. Bariatric surgery changes the anatomy of your digestive system to limit the amount of food you can eat and digest. Results from bariatric surgery are significant long-term weight loss, recovery from diabetes, improvement in cardiovascular risk factors, and a reduction in mortality.
