I tried to PM you but for whatever reason it wouldnt let me!
My mom had breast cancer (and colon cancer), her brother had breast cancer, both their parents (my maternal grandparents) died of cancer. Basically it's all over in the family. Not just with them but it is also in all their first cousins on my paternal grandpa's side as well.
I want to reduce my chances of it coming back to the breasts.

We can fight this!  Do you have to have chemo or radiation?
I will have a double mastectomy with reconstruction done at the same time so I get a tummy tuck out of the deal too. I wanted a tummy tuck for the past few months but this isnt the way I wanted it!  lol
Chemo after surgery for 4 to 6 months
I am glad that you are able to get the reconstruction done immediately and they can do the tram flap. I know some people think it is a wanity issue but after fighting the horrible cancer monster we should be able to get something positive out of it.

I didn't have much in the breast area before the cancer. I was just getting ready to have implants done when I was diagnosed. My goal was to get a small D cup. Now I'll be lucky to get a full B. But I'll take what I can get at this point. I just want to be somewhat "normal" again. Had severe complications during the wls and had just had my final surgery in December to correct that. Had the mammogram in February and the bi-lateral mastectomy in May. I did get a couple of months to enjoy a relativve normal thin body (my profile pic is from that time) before all hell broke lose AGAIN!

Prayers surrounding you for successful surgeries and an easy (or as easy as it can be) time during chemo!

I am pushing hard for the tram flap for my reconstruction but my plastic surgeon says I simply don't have enough fat. If he COULD do the tram flap I would get a free tummy tuck out of the deal. I am trying very hard to put some weight back on in hopes he will reconsider.

I know it is necessary to wait a while after radiation to have the tram flap done so you should be OK in that area.

Did the plastic surgeon indicate he would rather do it after you lose weight? Or is this a personal choice for you?

My surgeon also said he won't do the tram flap as long as I have back issues and I have moderate to severe scoliosis which I am having corrected with surgery in December.

I am thinking of maybe having the tissue expanders stay in for a while to see if #1 I can put on some weight and #2 get the scoliosis corrected. Right now I have a partially filled tissue expander on the left and nothing on the right due to a severe infection that required the expander and all excess skin to be removed. I'll have to have skin graphs on the right before reconstruction can begin. Waiting on a call as to when that starts but should be early October.

Please update on what you find out from your plastic surgeon so I might have some ammunition with mine.

I hope all goes well with your wls!

Good luck and God Bless!

As of now I will only have radiation. After surgery and the pathologist analyzes the tissue, then a determination of whether or not to recommend chemo. I don't think I want chemo at this point.

If you don't mind, could you private message me the reason you are having a double mastectomy?  I do understand if this is private information and I don't mean to pry.  I'm stage II. Thanks.

Hi Mona,
I was diagnosed with breast cancer while being tested for WLS. I had mt breast cancer treatments whi*****luded a lumpectomy and radiation. The radiation didn't do too much damage to my breast, but I think I would go to a specialist in breast cancer plastics to get any work done. I lost over 100 pounds and did consider the plastics, but I truly need to lose 50 more in order to do it all- and after a big loss of weight my boobs are not first on my priority list. I need my legs done, my whole body in fact. My advice- get a great doctor that knows his stuff.

Topic: RE: Pet Scan after WLS
Thank you Angela- my PET scan was cancelled, but now it is probably going to be needed after all. I just wish they would put me to sleep, work me up, then wake me to tell me what the hell this is- cancer or no... the waiting is torturous. But thank you for responding- at least I won't worry about getting sick from the injection.

The PET scan injection will not make you sick. I am like you. I have cancer (Lymphoma) and was worried, but there was no reaction.
