Topic: Stomach pain after Thyroid surgery
I had the sleeve done a little over a year ago. I had thyroid cancer in 2003 and just had surgery to have left over tissue and some lymph nodes removed in my neck. my stomach is the only thing that hurts. Is this normal after your stomach has been cut?

Topic: Awaiting Biopsy results-Going ahead w/RNY
I had my breast biopsy done on Wednesday morning. Both the radiologist and nurse said they saw no reason not to go ahead with my RNY surgery on Monday, no matter the outcome. They even said that breast cancer would be easier to battle for someone of average size vs. obese. We're still hoping for the results by tomorrow afternoon, but I'm still planning to go ahead with the RNY on Monday!  What are your thoughts?

Topic: RE: Breast Cancer and WLS, got the ok. I'm so excited!
I hope all goes well for you and that you will be able to proceed with your WLS.  Please let me know how your results turn out.  I always feel a conection to anyone that's going through what you are right now.  Know that I'll be thinking of you daily.

My husband and I are both having surgery Tuesday Nov 8th, same doctor, one after the other.  It seemes like it took forever to get to this point but we finally did.  We had our pre-class this past Friday, pre-op physical this coming Wednesday , go to the hospital Nov 7th to have picc lines inserted and surgery the following day.  My husband has diabetes and I've had blood transfusions to our surgeon wants to be prepared for any bumps in the road.

I look forward to hearing how all goes for you.  Hugs, DeeDee

I'm so glad to hear from both of you. I don't know if I'm exactly in your boat, yet, but I'm going through the same situation as the second person. I had a mammogram for the surgery, and now they are having to do a biopsy this Wednesday Morning. My surgery was scheduled for 5 days later. I just found out Friday, so I'm not really freaking , per se, but really concerned...and anxious. I'm going to see if I can re-schedule my surgery for the 14th, that way if the test results come back negative, I can go ahead with the surgery, and if it comes back positive, I guess I just cancel it?  But, I'm overweight, and I thought that you had a better chance of beating cancer if you were within 'acceptable' weight guidelines?  I'm not asking you, I guess I'm just thinking out loud.  Thanks for all your friendship.

Topic: RE: Thyroid Cancer
it is very difficult to get our thyroid levels in check post op,not just for those with cancer but for anyone with thyroid problems.  It is very important to take your thyroid medications the proper way - on an empty stomach and not within 2-4hours of your iron and calcium.  There is new reseach out that thyroid medication actually works better if you take it at night on an empty stomach rather than in the morning.  You might want to try that and see if that helps.

I had to have my dose adjusted 4 or 5 times post op and I still have my thyroid.  I was also put on cytomel - another thyroid medication (T3) that helps synthroid work better.

Topic: RE: Do I have Hodgkin's Lymphoma?
I just finished 6 rounds of CHEMO after having Non Hodgkin's Lymphome, Stage IV. The cancer was in my spleen, removed it in Feb. 11, the cancer also was in my bone marrow. After my Gastric -by-pass surgery (June, 2010), the Dr. told my family that my spleen was enlarge, but a lot of obese patients had en larged spleens. So we never gave it a thought.  Until Feb. 2011, and I received the bad news that I had cancer.  A PET SCAN and a BONE MARROW BIOPSY showed CLEAR of cancer. I will have many scans and blood work over the next several years.
This wasy we can keep ahead of the caner.  Any that is told they have an en-large spleen needs to look into it. If we had, the cancer might not have gotten into my bone marrow.
