Topic: RE: Help diagnosed with breast cancer.
Wow that is harsh treatment! Congrats on finishing your last chemo. I too was diagnosed ER+/PR+/Her2+ I started my TCH treatments the day after Thanksgiving 2010, I finished the chemo portion on March 11, 2011 and FINALLY just finished my last Herceptin a few days before Thanksgiving 2011 and my port removed the day before Thanksgiving. Wow what a whirlwind of treatments but trust me time does fly during the year.
I was scared so badly about gaining weight during Herceptin only. Actually I didn't even gain a pound. Since I finished Herceptin however I have gained 5 pounds. Something I really need to get on top of. I was so worried about gaining during Herceptin I think I wasn't paying close enough attention once I was done.
Good luck on your continued treatment, the hard part is over now. If you want to PM me I would be more than happy to answer any of your questions you may have

I have been diagnosed with ER+/PR+ and HER2 positive breast cancer. I have completed my harsh chemo (taxol & Carbo). Now I need herceptin for a week for the next 8 - 12 months. I am really nervous that I am going to gain weight taking the herceptin.
Anybody ever have any weight gain or weight loss with this herceptin?

Thanks! We ended up cutting the vicodin tablets in half and that worked wonders...fewer peaks and valleys. I've decided to take Advil for the next couple of days for the anti-inflammatory properties...so far it isn't upsetting my stomach. I'm going to ask my doc for transdermal patches with advil for the next couple of weeks...all the good of the inflammatory without any of the stomach issues.
I'll let you know how the chemo consult goes.

Topic: RE: abnormal endoscopy
Have you had the results yet? I had my sleeve done in Mexico on march 3, 2010 without an endoscopy. In June I went to a gastro dr in the states and was diagnosed with esophogeal cancer. If you have it, they wind up doing a resection which will cut your stomach by 1/3 with a pull up. I had that as well. It is over a year down the road and I am cancer free and went from 271 to 115. I doubt the drs in the states will do the surgery if they find cancer, but you may only have barretts esophogus. If you want anymore information please feel free to ask.

Good luck on your cancer treatments. I had RYN 2007 and was diagnosed with breast cancer Dec 2010. I had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation.
Since I only had a lumpectomy I can't comment on your surgery other then since RNY I've had many surgs and it took some trial and error to figure out what pain med worked best. I think it varies from person to person.
Chemo is all given IV. They will give you anti nausea meds and steroids in pill form but they seemed to absorb well. The Dr. I saw for chemo was a hematologist and also works with post weight loss patient who have malabsorbtion problems. So he know about our vitamin needs and problems with absorption.
I actually gained Wt during chemo because I was tired and had to cut back my exercise to about half what I had been doing. I also craved carb right after each chemo treatment.
Radiation is only in your breast area so the only issues you could have are local skin reactions.
Take life one day at atime. Treat yourself well and you will get through this.

Topic: abnormal endoscopy
I had my pre op endoscopy done on Monday. I awoke in the midst of the procedure in severe chest pain, with 3 doctors and a nurse crowded around the monitor. I was informed they had found a suspicious area in my esophagus, and had taken 4 biopsies. I am absolutely terrified awaiting these results. The doctor seemed very pressing when he was telling me to make sure I got a follow up appointment for 2 weeks to get the results. Has anyone had this experience?
I have been having a burning sensation in my chest, much like heartburn pain, and pain when I have eaten too much in my chest and back. These are symptoms of both esophageal cancer, and a stricture in the esophagus. Anyones experience would be greatly appreciated as my anxiety awaiting these results is like torture.

Topic: Chemo 9 years after RNY
Hi! I had an RNY in 2003 and recovered well. .
In December, I found a lump in my breast. It's breast cancer. I'm scheduled for a double mastectomy in two weeks. From there I have chemo, then radiation.
Do any of you know of any issues that I need to be aware of as I go through the surgery? chemo? radiation?
I specifically was wondering about the absorption of meds and the impact of the chemo poisons on my little stomach.
Any help you can give would be great.
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Chemo curls
Congratulations on finishing your chemo! I know I was so happy to be done with my chemo. It's been 2 years since I finished the chemo and I have grown my hair out to a little past my shoulders. It has a nice wave to it now. I think if it were still short I'd still have the curls because after I wa**** and let it dry naturally, I will get little ringlets around my face where I have shorter layers. I think the length is pulling on the curls. I've gotten used to the curls now and love them! Some days I even "scrunch" my hair. Enjoy your new locks. Did your color change too? Mine came in darker.
Topic: RE: Lap Band & Chemo
After speaking with my doctors, I was told that they will monitor me and the band throughout treatment. But I had to make sure that I eat health meals. As long as I didn't experience vomiting and lack of appetite, I was safe to leave my fill in.
Thankfully, I successfully made it through CHOP without the need to have my band adjusted.
Like the other poster, I also gained weight during chemo (Steroids)
