sampc3,
How are you doing? I'm going through the same thing right now - 2 years post op and about to get a thyroidectomy for papillary thyroid carcinoma. Would love to hear how you're doing.

Topic: RE: Papilary thyroid cancer Pill or liquid radiation treatment?
Hey! I had RNY 2 years ago and just got diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid cancer. Did you have a thyroidectomy? How was it?
Just a bit scared right now.
Anyways, my Doctor told me they would do the injection for me, not the pill - what did you end up doing?
Thanks!

iisme, I totally know what you mean.
I have to tell you that when my doctor told me I had cancer I broke down and said "I wish I never had gastric bypass". He looked at me and said "you need to know this has nothing to do with that. look at how much weight you lost, you are much healthier now".
I have thyroid cancer and I feel angry that my WLS team should be doing more thorough thyroid checks before they perform the surgery. Whether or not it's justified I feel like I could have lost weight had they given me the extra thyroid hormone my body needed.
In the end, I can't do anything about it and it sucks, BUT when the doctor told me that he knew it wasn't related it did make me feel better because that nagging feeling like I did something to make this happen was really haunting.
Hang in there, we'll get through this!

Topic: Thyroid Cancer
Hello everyone,
It's been just over 2 years since my RNY and I've been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I'm scheduled for a thyroidectomy in two weeks and I'm so scared. I remember waking up from the RNY surgery and feeling short of breath and it really scared me.
Has anyone had a thyroidectomy? Can you tell me what it was like to have the surgery?
Another thing that is really concerning me is the possible damage to the parathyroid gland. The surgeon told me that they will observe me for 2-3 days to see how my calcium levels are after the surgery and they will keep me there until my calcium stabalizes. He says that some RNY patients have trouble with stabalizing even if the parathyroid isn't damaged. I'm happy that he seems to know his stuff and I feel like I'm in good hands.
This is just such a major bummer. Any supportive thoughts would be helpful!
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Help diagnosed with breast cancer.
Was she HER2 positive and on TCH treatments as well? There are many different types of chemos and treatments. Some cause weight gain and puffiness. Others cause weight loss. The standard care for triple positive breast cancer is TCH unless it's metastasized. It's hard to compare one treatment with another. I had the exact treatment she is on.

I know that's what they say. It must be just me. I feel as if I would've left well enough alone I wouldnt be in the situation I am now.
My oncologist does tell me that if I wouldn't have had my RNY and breast reduction I very well may not have found my breast cancer lump as soon as I did. It was so very aggressive that it may have been "too late" I still tend to wonder though. It's hard not to.

Actually, Obesity is the leading cause of all types of cancers.
WLS is not a cause of cancer. I was just diagnesed with colon
cancer.
