Topic: RE: Need opinions on weight loss surgery after a total thyroidectomy
I would ask a good endocrinologist for an opinion.  My endo is also trained in internal medicine & he's very good with hormone regulation, proteins (not as in protein/ food) in the body, & vitamin needs.

Topic: RE: Thyroid Cancer
No cancer here but definite hypothyroidism. I was on the same dose of synthroid (88mcg) and now at 8 months out my thyroid is out of control. Meds have been raised to 125mcg and still no improvement. Also the scale won't budge :( Malabsorption is making this rough !

Topic: RE: For those of you dianosed with cancer
In breast cancer WLS can effect the rate of growth of your cancer.  the cancer cells can be in your body  before the WLS but too small to be detected.  When you loss weight your fat cells release estrogen.  If you have an ER+ tumor this will stimulate the tumors growth.  Detection and treatment is easier to tolerate at a normal weight then  as an obese person.  I know I wouldn't be alive today if I hadn't had WLS.  Good luck

That's so great to hear!  You made my day, congrats!

Did you have any troubles with calcium in post-op?  That's my biggest concern right now.  I really like my surgeon so I'm very happy.

I'm trying to hang in there too!
I had another surgery scheduled for May 22nd. I will have a total hysterectomy and the removal of a couple of lung nodules. We are keeping our finger's crossed that the nodules aren't malignant. The initial biopsy said they were "non diagnostic"
Good luck to you too!

I am doing very well. I have recovered amazingly well. I had a great surgeon, and my follow up care has been great. It took a while to get over the fatigue but other than that all is well.

Hope your surgery goes well. Please let us know how you are doing.

 Thanks Nora,

How are you doing?

The prognosis is excellent for this type of cancer, but it can be hard for bypass patients to regulate their calcium afterwards.  So scary!

HI there,
I really only know one person who has ever had thyroid cancer and that was the woman who did the pre-admitting at the hosptial when I had my double mastectomy. She had a scar on her throat and told me that she just got back to work. She told me her prognosis was very good!
I hope your surgery goes well.
