Topic: RE: WLS after cancer diagnosis?
It's not automatically denied. I'm guessing it's probably up to your doctor and insurance company.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2009 and had surgery, chemo, and radiation. My insurer required a release from my oncologist that stated I had a good prognosis and I had to be cancer-free for three years. I had my surgery in April 2012. But I'm guessing different insurance companies may have different rules.

I gained about 60 lbs during my cancer treatment. I was on heavy doses of steroid because I had many allergic reaction. The arimidex I am one also causes weight gain. I also had a double masc. with reconstruction. After all of this I could not drop the weight so opted for surgery. It has been another life saver. I didnt think about trying to loose the weight while I was gaining it. I didnt realize it would be so hard to come off. I think your 20 lbs will come off quickly. You know how hard it was to loose the weight and your not going to let it get out of controll. I know your body is retaining fluid . Mine did, I puffed up like a blowfish on chemo and radiation. Try not to worry. Dont put any more stress on your body or your mind. I wish you all the best.

I don't have an answer to your question. My breast cancer was 1 1/2 years after RNY. Eye cancer? I have never heard of that. I mean there's cancer of nearly everything else so I know it's possible but wow. How did you discover it? Is it related to malignant melanoma?

are you off of the pills because your doctor took you off of them? I know different people have different courses of treatment for their particular form of breast cancer. I was ER+ PR+ Her2+ with 2 lymph nodes involved., a tumor of 1.7cm and staged at 2a. My course of treatment was 6 rounds of chemo (Taxotere, Carboplatin) and Herceptin every 3 weeks and then Herceptin only every 3 weeks for a year. I am finally done.as of last Thanksgiving. I held my weight and then gained 10 pounds right after Thanksgiving. Now I am back to normal. I think my hormones were out of whack.
I think you need to be patient with yourself, dont be too hard on yourself either. You are going through a lot.

everything but the pap has come back and 3/4 so far are great news - i had a tv ultrasound and she did not see a need to even do a biopsy at all!!!! woot woot - she doesn't think that one will show anything either but still waiting on those results
Topic: RE: uterine biopsy - have a huge question...
hi,
He or she may even want to do a biopsy so that they can examine some tissue from your uterine lining. There are four stages of uterine cancer and it is best if caught in Stage 1. Sometimes these exams and biopsies are harder to do if a person is obese.
The doc will suggest this as a solution in stage1 of uterine cancer . It is likely that you will go through two treatments at one time to fight uterine cancer. For example, you may have surgery and then your physician will want you to have radiation treatments also just to be on the safe side.

Hello, lovingthisjourneyoflife!
Thanks for the information. We definitely are on similar journeys. I also have Papillary. During my thyroidectomy they found that it spread to at least one of the two lymph nodes they removed. Right now it's stage 1 but they'll know for sure after they do the I-123 scan.
Total thyroidectomy - May 21, 2012
RAI (Raodioactive Iodine for those who don't know) - June 13, 2012
So it's interesting that you said you gained weight. I thought I would, too, but I have lost 10 lbs since the surgery...what about 2 weeks ago? I haven't lost weight that fast since my "honeymoon" period. I want to be happy but it's making me kind of nervous because who knows why I'm losing it so fast. It may help that I had already been on Synthroid for a year so my body was adjusted to the medicine. Of course I called the doc and they aren't concerned so I should probably relax and enjoy the loss!
I have a great team and I'm really happy but still really nervous about the RAI. Did you take pills? They said they will give me 10 capsules of I-123 and then as long as there were no other metastases I will get a very low dose of I-131 also in capsule form. I was worried they were going to be like those honking calcium pills but as long as they are capsules my pouch seems to do fine.
I'd love to know what the RAI was like for you, if you're willing to share!
Thanks again!!
