I give myself B12 shots. I get doc prescription for B12 shots - one a week. After all copy - that ends up costing me only $1-2 per shot. But sometimes - when that is not available or my script runs out and I need to wait to see a doc to have it renewed - I go on line and get B12 injectable. Recently I got them from http://www.trimnutrition.com/b12-injections.html
The 30ml (30 dosages - each 1250mcg B12, or 40 dosages each 1000mcg) cost me app $40 - but that included the B12, and all supplies - syringes with needles, alcohol pads and shipping. That is like 40 dosages of 0.8cc=1000 mcg B12, $1 each. That's more than 9 months worth of the B12 shots.
The sublingual B12 may work - but they did not work for me. Only shots make my B12 finally normal in high range.

Hi back at ya! At the end of this year, I will be 10 years out with my RNY, and 4 years after my Chemo/Rads and in remission. I have dumping as a regular, often, side-effect. I, also don't know exactly what is responsible. I just chalk up some to eating sugar/starch, salt, fatty foods, spicy/strong flavored to the RNY, as this has been going on a long time. Any "surprises" I lay on the cancer treatments. (I call the dumping my "keeping me honest" dues.)
It's hard, but remember that you are NOT alone. There are lots of us sharing "tummy troubles " also.
But, you know, it is worth it when I see my SKINNY shadow! Best wishes and a 'puter hug' from me.
Hi Cathy, very sorry for you. Hope you doing well now. I have heard that bariatric weight loss surgery can cause cancer in the long run. Is that true? Anyway in your case I think you should consult both your surgeon and oncologist and make them compare treatments so that one thing doesn't affect the other.
Deciding on a surgery for weight loss can be a very difficult task. Doing research is important but more importantly, I think you must consult with your doctor on the same. There are a few things that differ from person to person due to which I believe only a doctor can provide good advice after a thorough check- up.
Hello, I had RNY 5 years ago, lost all the weight and have kept it off. Last May I was diagnosed with DCIS. Had two surgeries and 7 weeks of radiation. The medical oncologist put me on Anestrazole for the next 5 years. Since July I have gained almost 10 pounds and my blood pressure is going up.....weight gain, hypertension..two side effects of the drug. I am so disappointed. Made an appt with the bariatric dietitian. Hope she will give me some advise. Take care, Stella
Diana, I am taking anestrazole (for the next 5 years) for breast cancer. I have gained almost 10 pounds since last July...not very happy! I have not changed my eating habits. (RNY - almost 5 years ago). I am going to watch everything I eat, drink more water, less carbs and more protein. Let me know how you are doing ...Take care, Stella
Hi all - I am about 12 yrs post RNY. What does dumping feel like for people this far post surgery? Specifically, what specific foods/activities trigger it and what symptoms do you have? I am trying to differentiate between dumping from RNY and dumping from carcinoid syndrome. Thanks.
Hi I also was diagnosed w breast cancer and im happy to say i have been in remission for almost 4 yrs. Good luck and if you need to talk im here. support is VERY important.
I am a 39 yr. old cancer survivor, I was first diagnosed at 35. It has been a very long road.. My drs. say if and when I loose weight I will have a substantial decrease in a reaccurence. Which I am happy about!... God Bless everyone who is or had gone through a long journey like this.
