Well, today was a big day.  My first shower after my procedure.  It felt so good.  Things are looking good.  I have no real swelling that I can see.  The bandages survived the shower so I haven't seen the incisions yet.  No oozing or leaking.  Sleep is tough because I am not a back sleeper and I am afraid to put that kind of pressure on my sides yet.  A little tough getting me back into the garment - I have a second one - so it was new and pretty tight.  But between hubby and I we managed to make that happen.  I am warm because the garment is tight and long sleeved and because of some additional lipo on my thighs, I have to wear that garment too.  I had to put the air on - no way that I am going to wear this crap in the heat.  But I am doing good.  I had him do some revisions to my nipple reconstruction which is still covered by a bandage so I haven't seen that yet.  He also did some fat grafting in one of my breasts to balance it a better with the other.  That I could see and it looks wonderful.

How about you?  Things moving along?  Feeling any stronger today?  Pushing those protein drinks will definitely help with the healing process so even if that is all you have, they are good for you.  When is your next followup appointment?

I'm sure that your surgeon would not have done the surgery this close to the other if he didn't think it was safe.  No sense being thin if the cost is delaying this surgery and winding up with breast cancer.  I know that my PS wouldn't do surgeries too close together.  The body does need a little time to recover.

Take care.

Good luck on your procedure. Will be thinking of you! Yes they had me back on antibiotics and my appetite is shot. I am making myself drink protein drinks, and as long as the food is ok by my NUT i am eating what i can, and yes, exhausted way more then he rny or my knee replacement. Thanks for that info...i was kinda scared to call my NUT as they were not crazy about me even doing this so soon. But it sounds about right! Rest up and speedy healing!

Good to hear from you.  Sorry that the drains did not work out and you have to get the fluids drained weekly.  Seeing the drains decrease daily kept me motivated and let me know that I was moving in the right direction.  But at least the medical staff are seeing you regularly and monitoring your progress.  So do they still think you have an infection?  Did they put you back on antibiotics?  I was pretty tired at the beginning.  Surgery took a lot out of me.  That was probably the longest surgery that I had so it can be quite draining.  Not sleeping well doesn't help matters at all.  How is your appetite?  I struggled to eat early out.  So that helped with making me feel weak.  Gotta keep eating to get that energy level up.

So sorry that your family is only looking at the negative side of things.  They should be looking at it as something that you have done to prevent you from being like those family members whose life was cut short by this disease.  You have to not let them get you down and keep thinking of how good that feeling was when you woke up in recovery and realized how much you reduced your risk of breast cancer.

I might be gone for a few days.  I am having brachioplasty tomorrow morning.  So I might be out of it for a few days.

Take care of yourself and think good thoughts for me tomorrow.

Hi again...just now back on computer. Have been getting fluid drained out bi weekly. They thought i had an infection and have been soooo sleepy. Just wanted to say i am okay, not out of the woods yet. I get so tired now and the expanders hurt! Feels like getting stabbed in the chest. Still sleeping in the recliner. And,, i just might live. I really appre iate your support during this time. The family has not been taking it well, because my surgery reminds them of all the family who have died, so i have been mostly on my own. Which makes me very grateful u were there. Thanks

The drains are a necessary evil.  I understand that they do serve a purpose but they are a pain in the butt.  PS always feels bad when he tells me that I will have drains for a procedure.  But the alternative is that the fluid builds up inside which is what it sounds like happened to you.  Doesn't sound like draining that fluid was much of an issue for you.  Most folks really complain about it - say that it is painful.  But now that the fluid is out and you are feeling a little better, perhaps you will progress faster in the healing process.

Its a shame that you had such a long drive and ordeal.  But at least you got things taken care of.  I felt better when I got back to driving.  Felt like I got some independence back.  I didn't feel cooped up in the house anymore.  I would go to the local supermarket or wal-mart and grab a cart and walk around the store.  Made me feel more normal.

Take care of yourself.

Thanks for the tip. I did fool around with it a bit, and then fell asleep, this morning they confirmed it was broken and pulled it. Took 130 cc's off each side with a needle. I feel a lot better now. Doc also ordered a strong antibiotic. He said that other than that, and a direct quote by him, as he was aspirating the fluid "this is so annoying"...everything was ok. He was kind and stuff but I didn't want to ask him what, exactly was annoying when the PA was working on one side, and he was on the other. Maybe on Friday when I go in for the next aspiration. Anyway, I DROVE to the appointment today, as I did not have any other option. It was rather interesting. I went for 20 min, and rested, then another 20. Then when I got closer to the office, where I NEVER go, cause it's so far, I got lost. This was just the opening that he had available today. At least he still saw me. Much easier going home than getting there. But they told me not to do that again. (it was THEIR schedule that needed accommodated, the regular office is 5 min from my house) anyway...whew, I am tired. Thanks again for listening.

Every now and then my tubes would no expand. What I would do is start at the skin and try and press the tube the opposite way to get it to open up. Sometimes i would have to roll the tube between my fingers to loosen the clots that are in the tube. Then I would just keep doing this all the way down the tube - a real pain in the butt. I was usually able to get it to open up and create suction again. You might want to give that a try maybe it will work. You've got nothing to lose. Sometimes the clot would get stuck at the bottom of the tube near the bulb and I would play around with it the same way to clear it there.. I would assume the doc put them in right - gotta assume he knows what he is doing. Although it doesn't sound like the support staff is too sharp.
