Hi Cathy--

I can't answer, since I only recently had my weightloss  surgery, but I wanted to let you know I am thinking of you as you battle this cancer. I hope and pray your doctors will work together to find the right answers for you and your healing process.

Susan

Wow I am glad to see that I am not alone. I was diagnosed 4/7/14 with Kidney Cancer. my left kidney was removed 7/29/14 and the pathology report came back 8/6/14 it was stage 1 cancer fully contained to my left kidney so with the removal i am now cancer free. I was searching the web to see if there was any info about life after kidney removal and gastric bypass.. I had my wls 10/26/10.. I was 316 the day of surgery and lost 153 pounds... I ate to maintain my weight at that point.. It seems that kidney cancer is common based on what i am reading done anyone know why? btw my cancer was found by accident which I was told is how it is normally found my mass was 8.5 x 6.5 cm in size.. thank you all for the good information

I had a roux n y  andt did not resolve the acid reflux.  I now have Barrett's and an adinoid carcinoma just above the pouch.  Today they removed the tumor with EMR surgery.  I will know how deep the tumor was in two days. Pray it was only I. The first layer as they suspect it was deeper requiring chemo and surgery

Help!  I too have this problem. 2001 roux-n-y and years of acid reflux which the surgery did not eliminate left me with some Barrett's and a patch of adenoid carcinoma.  Today they did an EMR and took out the tumor.  I am waiting until I get the full staging back in two days, however they think it extends into level two...so I may need chemo and surgery. One doc wanted to put my stomach in my neck, etc.  another wants a milder version...and it is all quite frightening.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, that's what I've been told...getting your weight within a normal range decreases your chances for recurrence by 50%.  That's one of the primary reasons I'm having surgery....I'm doing everything I can to reduce the chances of ever having a cancer diagnosis and treatment again.  I went for by pre op pysch evaluation and he asked me what are my fears about surgery, my response was nothing....after chemo, this will be a breeze!

Topic: Frightened might have Cancer

I had my revision to RNY from Lapband in 2009 and over the past year have had a very bad fatigue, headaches and daily low grade fevers and chronic constipation.  I developed upper belly pain especially on the right side about 4 months ago and since have had x-rays, iron fusions, CT scans and MRIs to check out the whole abdominal area.  The only thing they seemed concern with was a lesion on the left lobe of my liver which is small but they did a liver pool scan and decided to wait a couple months to look for changes.

In the meantime I've avoided the dreaded colonoscopy and should have had it almost 4 years ago but now am scheduled for it as well as an endoscopy at the same time in March.

I've seen the gambit of doctors and specialist and the gastroenterologist seem to be the last ones to handle my case with my upcoming scopes but just wondering if anyone who has had cancer in the gastro area possibly have had similar symptoms as I have.  I've also lost some weight after an initial 20 lb gain a couple years after RNY.  I've probably lost 10 lbs over the past year without trying.  Thanks in advance for your thoughts/advice.  And don't tell me not to worry because I've been really patient for a long time and this fatigue is taking it's toll on me!  Thanks again, Nan.

I am so sorry that this happened.  I have no idea why rny would cause this but I don't know what the test measures to give that number.  Good that the doc is going to re-do the test quickly though as this is not something to play around with. If you don't mind my asking what kind of cancer did you have?  What was your treatment?  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Question.  It's been three years cancer free I had my 6 month check up and my CA125 results went from 10 to 98.  My doctor is pretty sure it's because I just had my RNY 2 week earlier.  What do you think?  Can it go up just because I had surgery? She is re testing me in 4 weeks.
