Hello Nan,
i too am hypothyroid. In speaking with one of my friends a month ago, she mentioned to me that there is a recommended diet for those of us with a hypothyroid condition. When I researched it online, I found that I tend to munch on many items on the list. I began to change my diet, along with purchasing a thyroid support supplement found at the local health food store.
I feel a lot better now.
Hi have a question for you who are familiar or have hypothyroidism. I had my gastric bypass in 2009 and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism around 2006. I've been on a script for Synthroid ever since and it's only gone up a bit to 88 mg about a year ago.
My question is I'm suffering now with an undiagnosed issue but it really seems to fit a problem with my thyroid if you look at all my symptoms plus the fact I've been through the gambit of doctors who have thrown up their hands.
My endocrinologist basically looks at my "T" numbers and if they're "normal" then it's not my thyroid and no visible lump on my throat although my neck is and has always been very large.
Basically for over two years I've suffered with a list of symptoms and I'm a 54 yo woman.
Fatigue, very bad
Low body temps usually 97.....
Once in a while a low grade fever which would read 99.......
Headaches but not debilitating
Brittle and hair falling out
Very puffy eyes (the skin underneath and lids)
My eyebrows cut off near the center and stopped growing and have deminished
Brittle fingernails
Feel cold most of the time and at night used 3+ blankets and have never had a hot flash although am 54
My periods are heavier and every 4 weeks still!
Chronic constipation although I thought it could be my iron supplement now think it's thyroid related
Trochanteric burusitis of both hips
Muscle pain throughout my arms and sometimes legs (feel as if I rowed a boat across the Atlantic, that sore)
Sleep apnea is worse than it was prior to losing 50+ pounds
Water retention
No Sex Drive
PMS worse now with bad cramping prior to period
Memory Fog
Low energy, malaise
Low grade depression
Clogged/dry throat feeling
Okay sorry for humongous list but like I said I've been dealing with this for well over 2 years and have seen every specialist from Rheumos, gastros, bariatrics, hematologists, ENTs, neurologists, endocrinologists, dentists, you name it I've been there and even tried a second doctor. Had many CTs and MRIs and enough bloodwork that I should be iron deficient which I am on the low side but not bad enough that I need an iron fusion of which they tried four!
I don't know if I need to find a new endocrinologist and try to get a scan of my thyroid as I have not had the neck area ever scanned or if I'm not processing my Synthroid the correct way due to my previous RNY. Any info out there would truly be appreciated as I'm close to throwing up my arms and giving up.
The last labs I had done were done by my neurologist and he ran Thryroid Peroxid which was 39 out of 0-34IU/ml and also Thyroglobul AB which was 1.3 from a scale of 0.0 to 0.9IU/ml. They are considered "high" but so far no one seems to put any of this together pointing to my thyroid except me!! Thanks Nan.
how is your quality of life now? what did you end up doing?
Good your doing your follow up.... don't stop, I went to a oncologist off and on since 2011 and they didn't think this was anything nor did I and now that I was having bit of other symptoms a new DR ran a CT scan and all along this needed attn. Hang in there I can relate with feelings you are going thru. Cathy Blessed day to you.
Thanks Cathy,
They said they were cysts on my kidneys and on my liver was a hemangeanoma (sp) and that is what they were most concerned with and wanted to check again in six months to see if it changes in size. I've met my deductible so I can get an MRI covered in full by the end of this year so I may go ahead. There are so many auto immune disorders that have fatigue as a symptom and no one has been able to diagnose me yet so I'm hoping this head guy at the teaching hospital can or will at least lead me in the right direction. Good luck to you too, Nan.
Hi Nan, don't wait for Dr's to watch this.... get another opion prior to jus****ching tumors, if small they can do work to them prior to them spreading, my surgery went well and I'm on the road to recovery Tumor was small they left partial of my right kidney but they do see 2 little tumors on my left kidney I will find out on Dec 2nd to get info re: the plan to watch, remove or? Pathology report will tell them a lot if they can leave and watch or if not malignant. I would make sure to get 2nd opinions and do your research on cancer boards there are several that have been there done that and others like us that are new to all of this. Cancercompass.com is a good site and Smartpatients.com is another site to learn both have helped me do a lot of research. Take care.... keep strong and don't wait till Dr's give you answers you be prepared to ask as well. Hang in there. Cathy
Sorry you are going through this one4cat. I've gone through mris and cat scans and have things on my liver and kidneys but nothing that is of anything of an emergency as of yet. Just looking at a liver tumor every six months for now to see if it changes. I see a new rheuma doc next month and am hoping that my symptoms are of that nature. Good luck with your surgery, Nan!
I'm scheduled to have my Kidney Tumor removed tomorrow its small and in tact so should be ok. Not sure how this will work what i read to much protein isnt good for our Kidneys but we need more after our bariatric surgery?
