Cancer after gastric bypass
Girl I am sorry to hear about your nephrectomy... Hope you are healing well.. I have faith that you will get back on track with your weight... just go back to when you started.... do your protein shakes and your 64 ozs of water.... oh by the way how much protein are they saying you needed when you had just the one kidney...I talked to a nut the other day and he said I may have to cut my intake down to 70 grams.. I do 90 to 110 grams a day now...
Lord I feel very blessed now... that I will still have 1 good kidney left... nothing is showing up on the right one.... Hoping it will stay that way... still have not got a surgery date yet... Monday I am getting on the phone again and calling them and seeing if they are going to hurry up and set this date.... I still need to see my heart dr.. I will be calling him Monday also...
Please keep me informed on how you are doing... I will let you know when I get a date too... blessing and sending up healing thoughts for you... Please get back on track for your health... You have come this far and have gone through so much with this to let it all slip away....

My doctor has never discussed any diet restrictions or issues. I'm not sure if this was because he was aware last year that the surgery this year would be necessary and he felt that was more of an issue or maybe my diet isn't an issue because all my kidney function test results have been good. The kidney function specialist I saw last fall said my function is better than a "normal" woman of my age. Made me laugh and I told him there is nothing "normal" about me.
At this point I know that the kidney function specialist will be testing and doing followup for a minimum of annually for 5 years. My kidney surgeon will be doing 6 month follow ups for 2 years and then annual for 5 years to ensure that nothing new develops. I think that my bilateral kidney cancer was likely caused due to workplace exposure to chemical vapors. i worked for many years doing plastics extrusion. Basically setting up and operating machines that melted PVC adding resins to it and shaping it. Much of the time I had to put myself directly in the off gassing in order to ensure the process was operating correctly. In the early years we did this with no ventilation and later years I did my part of the job then moved the air vent into place so the factory didn't fill with fumes but had to move those vents frequently while I moved into place to look over the process.
I know that my sleeve still works. Over the last few weeks I decided to go back to the type of liquid diet that I had to do prior to VSG. I had no trouble sticking to it and really wasn't hungry. Proof that dieting is possible I just have to keep myself away from the fast foods and carbs. Carbs are really my huge downfall. Bread or pastry make me hungrier even if it is whole grain (recommended by my dietitian). It seems that looking at the posts here under "what are you eating today" will show the best eating habits for long term success.
Good luck with your surgery. I am getting better day by day...able to sleep a bit more now that I am not so uncomfortable. I did have bad reaction to tape adhesive and now have what looks like burns in a few spots on my belly. Those probably hurt more than the surgical sites.
Wow I am glad to see that I am not alone. I was diagnosed 4/7/14 with Kidney Cancer. my left kidney was removed 7/29/14 and the pathology report came back 8/6/14 it was stage 1 cancer fully contained to my left kidney so with the removal i am now cancer free. I was searching the web to see if there was any info about life after kidney removal and gastric bypass.. I had my wls 10/26/10.. I was 316 the day of surgery and lost 153 pounds... I ate to maintain my weight at that point.. It seems that kidney cancer is common based on what i am reading done anyone know why? btw my cancer was found by accident which I was told is how it is normally found my mass was 8.5 x 6.5 cm in size.. thank you all for the good information

My specialist has never examined any eating regimen confinements or issues. I'm not certain if this was since he was mindful a year ago that the surgery in the not so distant future might be essential and he felt that was a greater amount of an issue or possibly my eating regimen isn't an issue on the grounds that all my kidney capacity test outcomes have been great.
