abnormal endoscopy

I had my pre op endoscopy done on Monday. I awoke in the midst of the procedure in severe chest pain, with 3 doctors and a nurse crowded around the monitor. I was informed they had found a suspicious area in my esophagus, and had taken 4 biopsies. I am absolutely terrified awaiting these results. The doctor seemed very pressing when he was telling me to make sure I got a follow up appointment for 2 weeks to get the results. Has anyone had this experience?

I have been having a burning sensation in my chest, much like heartburn pain, and pain when I have eaten too much in my chest and back. These are symptoms of both esophageal cancer, and a stricture in the esophagus. Anyones experience would be greatly appreciated as my anxiety awaiting these results is like torture.

Have you had the results yet? I had my sleeve done in Mexico on march 3, 2010 without an endoscopy. In June I went to a gastro dr in the states and was diagnosed with esophogeal cancer. If you have it, they wind up doing a resection which will cut your stomach by 1/3 with a pull up. I had that as well. It is over a year down the road and I am cancer free and went from  271 to 115. I doubt the drs in the states will do the surgery if they find cancer, but you may only have barretts esophogus. If you want anymore information please feel free to ask.

Help!  I too have this problem. 2001 roux-n-y and years of acid reflux which the surgery did not eliminate left me with some Barrett's and a patch of adenoid carcinoma.  Today they did an EMR and took out the tumor.  I am waiting until I get the full staging back in two days, however they think it extends into level two...so I may need chemo and surgery. One doc wanted to put my stomach in my neck, etc.  another wants a milder version...and it is all quite frightening.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Cancer is absolutely visible on endoscopy, but it isn't always evident to the endoscopist what it is. Gastritis isn't always easy to see.

So from what you are saying, there are two possibilities here:
1) The biopsy shows inflammation (gastritis)
2) the biopsy shows normal mucosa.

There is no reason to worry about cancer.

EDIT TO ADD
A very important thing to also take into consideration is the clinical situation. In your case the endoscopy was done as part of the work up on suspected IBS. This is a completely different situation than an endoscopy done as part of work up for symptoms raising more or less strong suspicion of cancer. The combination of suspected IBS and normal appearing endoscopy further support that cancer is not a diagnosis for you to worry about.
