 Hello

In 2008 I had both breast removed, went through chemo and radiation. Now I am going to do wls RNY this month. I am hoping that they will be able to do a trans flap with implants after I loose all this weight. Just implants is not an option since I have radiation damage. Has anyone went through this?

Thanks
Mona

We can fight this!  Do you have to have chemo or radiation?
I will have a double mastectomy with reconstruction done at the same time so I get a tummy tuck out of the deal too. I wanted a tummy tuck for the past few months but this isnt the way I wanted it!  lol
Chemo after surgery for 4 to 6 months

As of now I will only have radiation. After surgery and the pathologist analyzes the tissue, then a determination of whether or not to recommend chemo. I don't think I want chemo at this point.

If you don't mind, could you private message me the reason you are having a double mastectomy?  I do understand if this is private information and I don't mean to pry.  I'm stage II. Thanks.

I tried to PM you but for whatever reason it wouldnt let me!
My mom had breast cancer (and colon cancer), her brother had breast cancer, both their parents (my maternal grandparents) died of cancer. Basically it's all over in the family. Not just with them but it is also in all their first cousins on my paternal grandpa's side as well.
I want to reduce my chances of it coming back to the breasts.

I understand now. I only know of a paternal great aunt who had breast cancer and a double mastectomy so maybe that's why my oncologist didn't suggest it as an option. Thank you for sharing.

I tried to PM you as well, but couldn't. Here's my email:  [email protected]

Hope your surgery was uneventful and praying that you have a smooth recovery. You will beat this.

I am glad that you are able to get the reconstruction done immediately and they can do the tram flap. I know some people think it is a wanity issue but after fighting the horrible cancer monster we should be able to get something positive out of it.

I didn't have much in the breast area before the cancer. I was just getting ready to have implants done when I was diagnosed. My goal was to get a small D cup. Now I'll be lucky to get a full B. But I'll take what I can get at this point. I just want to be somewhat "normal" again. Had severe complications during the wls and had just had my final surgery in December to correct that. Had the mammogram in February and the bi-lateral mastectomy in May. I did get a couple of months to enjoy a relativve normal thin body (my profile pic is from that time) before all hell broke lose AGAIN!

Prayers surrounding you for successful surgeries and an easy (or as easy as it can be) time during chemo!

Hi Mona,
I was diagnosed with breast cancer while being tested for WLS. I had mt breast cancer treatments whi*****luded a lumpectomy and radiation. The radiation didn't do too much damage to my breast, but I think I would go to a specialist in breast cancer plastics to get any work done. I lost over 100 pounds and did consider the plastics, but I truly need to lose 50 more in order to do it all- and after a big loss of weight my boobs are not first on my priority list. I need my legs done, my whole body in fact. My advice- get a great doctor that knows his stuff.
