Sorry to hear the news!

I'm not sure about trying to put on weight before surgery, unless your doctors think it's wise.  My ex mother in law had kidney cancer and treatment.  She was very obesity and didn't lose any weight afterward, so I imagine that you may not have to be concerned about that.

I hope everything turns out well for you!

I'm SO sorry to hear you are going through this...I am currently waiting to find out if the mass in my left kidney is cancer.  Can you tell me how yours was diagnosed?

I had surgery on Aug 28th. They took the mass and a corner of my kidney and a few lymph nodes.  It took 2 weeks to get back an answer it was not cancer it was a tumor that was so rare they had to do lot of reserch. It's called a Pecoma tumor I will have to be watch for the next couple of years to make sure it does not return.

Thank you so much for answering me.  I go for more CT scans tomorrow.  Hopefully I will have an answer soon.  The not knowing, as you know, is very tough.
I'm very happy to hear that your outcome was not cancer.  I know I don't need to tell you this, but take really good care of yourself and keep a close eye on things.
Again, thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question.

I heard from the doc tonight.  My scan shows that the mass is consistent with renal cell carcinoma,  BUT, they won't know for sure until I see the specialist and possibly have a biopsy.
Thank you again for responding to me.

Hello I don't think you will need to put on weight to have the surgery.  I had kidney cancer about 4 years ago. Funny thing was, I was recovering from the cancer surgery on the day that my WLS was scheduled.  I am now about to have the WLS.  My surgery went well but would of gone better had I been your size.  My tumor was the size of a grapefruit and was very cancerous.  They took my kidney, lymph nodes and a piece of the liver.  I was very blessed and all has worked out.  You will be sore after surgery and it will all seem overwhelming at times, but do exactly what the doctor tells you and ask questions if you don't understand something.

On a side note, I didn't lose a pound after the surgery.  I am sure that you have had your surgery by now, but just in case.  My best to you and if you have any questions, I would be happy to answer.

Hi,

Putting weight before surgery is totally depends on your surgeon advice.

When a person is overweight, his kidneys must work harder to function. Over time, they begin to become less resilient. In fact, some overweight individuals may experience renal failure.

But also the operation cause in weight loss.

So, always consult your surgeon.

Thanks

Hi,

You must not take this lightly. Remember "Prevention is better than Cure". Ask for some surgeon suggestion from your friends, relatives or here in forums.
