You really don't want a BPD WITHOUT a DS. Here's some pics:

If you really have a Scopinaro BPD, you have a very large pouch, distal RNY. It looks like this:

A true DS (sometimes called a BPD with DS/duodenal switch) looks like this:

The confusion in the nomenclature is really unfortunate, and leads to a LOT of confusion.

A sticky would have been Good.  Is there any more update info.  I was reading a current article and it gave some states in it stating the RNY corrected Diabetes in 75% of cases and the Biliopancreatic Diversion corrected Diabetes in 95% of the cases.

I had the lap band and did good with portion control.  NOT with the band.  I am looking to revise to a VSG.  My Shrink at the Psych Eval is trying to force me into a RNY due to Diabetes in the family.  I do believe the band saved me so far as I was borderline and so was my Sister 18 months older than me.  She is now a Diabetic, I'm normal.  If I wanted to convert to a RNY I would have done that 2 years ago.  I didn't want them to mess up my stomach/P valve.  Which the band did anyway so much for less invasive.

So I am trying do my research so I know what I'm talking about when I talk to the surgeon on the 7th.  My question; are they talking about the DS or the Scopinaro procedure? I have been told in no uncertain terms this will be the last surgery I will ever get as I am already fighting against the once in a lifetime WLS rule.  My oldest sister has the DS and is the one that stopped me from the RNY in the first place 4 years ago.

Most recently, a paper in the March 26 New England Journal of Medicine compared patients with diabetes receiving bariatric surgery with those who got medical treatment for excess weight. After two years, 75% of those *****ceived gastric bypass, and 95% getting biliopancreatic diversion, achieved glycemic control. All the patients in the medical treatment group did not.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Have you tried looking into Bariatric Advantage vitamins???? Because the Flinstone chewables are no good. We need more vitamins than we were told or you wont have any energy! Are you taking b-12? This is another supplement you will need for energy/metabolism....Dont just sit there and die! Find a solution to your problem dear...

You really should post this on the DS board, if you had a BPD with DS.

I'm curious---what sort of revision are you planning? Who's your revision surgeon?

Topic: Announcing Forum Upgrades!

Its been over six years since we've launched our forums. During this time it has seen thousands of fresh faces, greetings, meetings, partings, arguments, kind words, life transformations, cathartic rants, and simply happy time pass. It has been with us throughout this time, silently observing and facilitating. But like any wise old man, its bones were getting old. Its joints were aching, and it has been needing a new jolt of energy.

A Mobile World
Did you know that over 30% of you visit our website using a mobile device? For those who do visit us via mobile, we owe you a sincere apology, because our forums have been horrendous on a mobile browser. But the big news is that things are about to change! Our new forums are completely mobile friendly and compatible with iPhone, Android, and pretty much any other modern smart phone.

Each post, topic, and forum shows up beautifully, with the full set of features, and in nice large font. See the screenshots for yourself.

You dont have do anything different, just browse to the forums like you normally would. This means that you can finally put these away:

Not Just for Mobile
The interface on your desktop browser has also been cleaned up a great deal. There is now less clutter on the page, and the overall experience is a lot cleaner. Check out some more screenshots here!

You will notice that each post no longer has 400 buttons below it. Only the buttons that are relevant to each post show up, making your screen space a lot less cluttered. Also, when you reply to another person's post, the entire post is indented inside, making it a lot easier to figure out who has replied to whom.

Launching soon! Maybe as early as next week! Maybe.
And do remember that this is not in any way a be-all-end-all when it comes to the forums. We are in the process of constantly learning and improving upon what we have, and this is just one step along the way.

Stay tuned for the changes! We look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

Hi my name is Debbie I had my first surgery in 2000, it was a Biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) with duodenal switch...my starting weight was 469 I lost 196lbs...

I am now 12 years out and still needing to lose more weight 100lbs or so...

This last Thursday I found out my insurance has approved me for a revision surgery...I am very excited to have the chance to finish this journey!!! My lowest weight was 273 and right now I'm at 295, not too bad for being 12yrs post opt...I've put on 22lbs in 12yrs...

So now I'm waiting for a surgery date...and wondering if anyone else has had this done, and if so how did it go for you?

I'm guessing since you had your surgery in 2011, is that you had the BPD/DS, because the Scarpinaro BPD isn't being done anymore.

Now, that being said, the only thing wrong with the surgery is that it should NEVER be performed on anyone who does not understand the importance of taking vitamins.  You need to get over to the DS forum and dsfacts.com to start learning how to care for yourself.  Otherwise you're dying a slow and painful malnourished death.
