Topic: RE: Hair Loss!!!! When does it come back?!?!
Hi Charlee,
I accidentally clicked here, going to the DS board, and think you did too, lol.
This is the BPD board, which confusingly is not the same as the BPD-DS (or DS) which is what we both had. This board is dead, dead, dead, so you may have to post on the DS board to get some answers, but I'll give you my 2 cents on the hair.
Make sure you are getting your supplements (including biotin, zinc, vit C) and especially protein. I have heard that when the hair finally falls out, it's because there is a new one pushing up from below, so hopefully you will start seeing new baby hairs soon - you would be right on schedule.

Topic: Hair Loss!!!! When does it come back?!?!
I began losing hair (falling out from roots and breakage) at about 4 months out and it has now finally slowed at 11 months out! I can see no sign of new hair coming in and am very anxious about whether it will return or not at this point! Someone please advise!! Thanks! Charlee

congrats on your weight loss!
sounds like you have had quite the experience!!
Do you know how many DS's that Martin performed?
I heard that duodenum tissue is like trying to suture together toilet paper... extremely difficult!

Hi. Both surgeries were done by Dr. Adam Naaman in Houston TX, *****tired a few years ago. You had quite a transformation. Why did you need the revision?

Topic: RE: ATTENTION: The Biliopancreatic Diversion is NOT the Duodenal Switch. DIFFERENT SURGERIES!
Perhaps - but you can exclude the distal duodenum and jejunum in different ways, so you can't say exactly WHAT duodenal-jejunal bypass means without reference to how it is constructed. For example, there is a group in Spain (and now, apparently Dr. Roslin in NYC), doing a "single anastomosis DJB," with a short (200 cm) alimentary tract/common channel (it is all common channel) and the DJ piece hanging upstream - but he calls it a DJB too. A "switch" has a longer alimentary tract (250 cm plus) and a shorter (~100 cm) common channel, with a RNY-type anastomosis connecting the biliopancreatic limb. But technically, you could call that construction a DJB too.

Sorry, just curious, but would that be what is called the duodenal-jejunal bypass?

I had a DS/BPD as a revision to a failed RnY. There were three years between the two surgeries. I had to convince my surgeon that I needed a revision. Personally, I think he didn't do something right with the RnY. After the initial stages of liquids and soft food, I never found that my food intake was as restricted as it was supposed to be. With the revision, I was able to eat much more comforatbly with a lot less throwing up. I still have some bloating problems and a lot of gas problems which I had with the original RnY. After a net loss of only 20 pounds from the RnY, I lost 100 pounds with the RnY and have managed to keep it off since 2005.
I am suddenly having a bloating problem again with my upper abdomen getting so extended that I almost look pregnant. I'm off to a gastroenterologist because along with the bloating, I am experiencing pain which I have never had before.
Eating is very frustrating for me. I generally find I eat because I have to, not because I want to. I try to have at least one decent meal per day. I have no real cravings for anything and just don't enjoy food anymore. It sounds odd to most people, but maybe those reading can understand this - I miss my friend and companion - food.
Still 120 pounds lighter, I've had a tummy tuck, breast reduction, thigh reduction and lipo to my bat wings. Plastic surgery experience doesn't seem to last or the results not as awesome as I had hoped.
I'd like to hear others' post-surgery experiences.
