Not taking vitamins, or adequate vitamins with a malabsorbtive can be a death sentence. You have to consume at least 100 gr of protein a day to get what your body needs, maybe more. It's not optional - things like your heart are muscle, and the body will consume muscles to keep you going if you aren't getting enough protein. If you have the edema in your legs, that is a sign you are well into protein malnutrition.

I would ask you to post what your surgeon has you on for iron, b12 and other supplements, but I know already it is horribly lacking. You should be having regular thorough blood work, and you tweek your vitamins based on that with the help of your doctor, but it sounds like you are way behind, and will a specialist to get you on mega doses ASAP.

You need to find the vets over on pro boards (weight loss) and talk to Vitalady. She has helped many figure out what they need, and she has the right formulations that malabsorbers need. Since you seem to have such poor supplements info, I suspect that you may not be on the right types of some supplements as well.

You will need thorough labs, like if they didn't draw over 20 vials of blood, they were not thorough. Contact Vitalady or the vets when you have those. Becoming deficient in some vitamins can not only cause permanent damage, but can be fatal. Please don't wait on this.

I'm guessing since you had your surgery in 2011, is that you had the BPD/DS, because the Scarpinaro BPD isn't being done anymore.

Now, that being said, the only thing wrong with the surgery is that it should NEVER be performed on anyone who does not understand the importance of taking vitamins.  You need to get over to the DS forum and dsfacts.com to start learning how to care for yourself.  Otherwise you're dying a slow and painful malnourished death.

Have you tried looking into Bariatric Advantage vitamins???? Because the Flinstone chewables are no good. We need more vitamins than we were told or you wont have any energy! Are you taking b-12? This is another supplement you will need for energy/metabolism....Dont just sit there and die! Find a solution to your problem dear...

GIRL!!!!!!!!! WTF is wrong with you!!!!!blush  Go back to the hospital have them put in a PICC line and put you on TPN for like 3-6 months to get your body back on track and then once you are on track STAY ON TRACK. The other posters are correct you are SEVERELY malnourished and there is NO WAY you can rectify the situation with food. You need TPN for the protein and the vitamin regulation. Why do I care? Because I pulled the same "stunt" and almost left my children without a mom and my husband without a wife. I was placed on TPN last December (2011) while in the hospital and was taken off in April (2012). That saved my life. There is NO WAY I would be here without it.  If it means that you have to go to every hospital in the state then do it. MAKE THEM LISTEN!!!!!!!
