Topic: The Beck Diet Solution ~ Day 5
This lesson is about eat slowly and mindfully. I have to say that I am already doing this, but it was good to review it. I now will make it a point to always eat at the dinning room table rather then at my desk, even though I use a timer. I will make it a point to NOT read, or even have music on while I eat. To focus simply on eating, chewing my food thoroughly, waiting a minute before taking my next bite and then continuing to finish my meal in the longest time possible, til I have the sation feeling, but NOT over full. I have been suffering with being over full and eating way too much.
I need to recognize that as soon as my stomach feels filled, then I need to stop! I am still dealing with those old ideas that I'm holding in my head of just how much food it takes to make me feel full and those old notions of what eating is. They are slipping away, and it helps SOO much to have a timed schedule to follow. Every three hours. I'm on it and I stick to it!
I have missed reading my affirmation and cards the required two times daily this past weekend. I need to add them to my phone and also to record a voice MP3 for me to use at night to listen to while falling asleep. Getting all the needed help I can! hehe
The not eating while standing in the kitchen is a much harder habit to break then I thought!! Today I caught myself doing it FOUR times! Two of which were while cooking, of course. The other two were while carrying my food to the table. It was just soo natural to do that! It's amazing the things we do without even thinking of them. It's a reflex. As natural as driving home every day from work on auto pilot. It's insane! So, I have my post it notes up in my kitchen. I have my place card for my table to read and to adhere to while eating and I'm ready. I'm embracing the change and eager for it! I think the willingness to DO the change is really as much a factor as doing the actual change. Having the open heart, and wanting to change and then DOING the act that accomplishes change. Wanting to let go of old habits and wanting to replace them with new ones, no matter the effort!

Topic: The Beck Diet Solution ~ Day 4
This lesson was about acknowledging when you DO follow your diet/exercise plan. When you DON'T give in to temptation. Giving yourself credit!
I changed it a bit since I'm Christian and only with the Lord's help can I accomplish such things and give him praise and my deepest thanks when he strengthens me to avoid those pit falls and over eating and indulging in foods that will make me fat once more.
I set a strict limit on food per meal/snack time and am reinforcing eating ONLY every three hours. I will have to start making lunches sooner then noon since I am now making ACTUAL healthy lunches then just popping crap in the microwave and nuking it! hehe
How strange that now that I'm eating healthier I'm cooking actual meals, even when it's only for me. lol
I have added the affirmation of giving thanks to God for enabling me to be strong enough to NOT give in to temptation and grazing while prepping and making meals. With God NOTHING is impossible. His will power and strength has no match, so with him aiding me. I can and WILL succeed in ALL things!
With God, ALL things are possible!!

Topic: The Beck Diet Solution ~ Day 2 (w/day 3)
Well I have actually read day two AND three since day 2 deals with diets. Since I'm on a healthy eating style I just wrote down what I would be eating and how I would be eating from here on out. She did have a good idea of not 'forbidding' foods from your diet, since once you put that label on them you want them all the more. I've decided to do the. "I'll get it later" mind set. For once I'll make laziness work for ME! hehe Once I get the craving/head hunger for sweets or junky carbs I'll wait 15 minutes and do some activity and then see if the urge comes back then I'll use the 'sweets treats' card (I have a 3x5 I'm using) and have a treat on either Friday or Saturday. Not both days, but one. So then I can have that to look forward to and once I get to that day, hopefully I'll have been working on getting over that urge and let it go. It's all about distraction and exchanging one habit for another.
I have reviewed my affirmation only once today. I will do it again before I go to bed (which I will be doing as soon as I post this! hehe) so I will get in the two times that is re commanded by the solution.
I am enjoying the book a lot. It's all knowledge and counseling like I have done in the past for my own treatment groups, but I like that it's focused and organized in such a careful and precise way. It's so very helpful and straight forward.
The lesson for day three is that you NEVER eat anything except for when you are seated! No grazing when cooking, fixing lunches, or mixing things, or putting things away. The ONLY time you eat is when you are seated. The reason behind this is because people consider those nibbles, and bites "not eating" or "free" foods and don't count those calories.
As I was reading the title and subtitles I was thinking I don't EVER stand in front of the fridge to eat, so this lesson is not one that really pertains to me, but as I read on and discovered that I sure do stand UP and graze and nibble. I mean really, how many do consider that nibbles while cooking as being calories?? Or eating that last piece of lunch meat after making school lunches? So, at the table I will now sit to eat all my meals, with a timer (when alone) to ensure I'm waiting the minute between bites and counting to 60 in my head when with family or friends or out to eat (which I haven't done yet). I will also be placing my utensil beside my plate while chewing and counting. hehe
The lesson also goes on to state that post sticky notes or reminders where you graze the most and at your table to remind you to sit and eat and actually enjoy and focus on your food. What a NOVEL concept!! Actually considering the food you place in your mouth! I mean...that's how I got fat in the first place!! hehe
So thus far, after only two short days. I'm doing well! I love the reminder cards and posting reminders around the house to eat sitting down only! To NOT nibble while in the kitchen at all!! I think I will make the kitchen a NO EATING zoning!! hehe

Topic: The Beck Diet Solution ~ Day 1
I had been reading on the VSG forums about this book and had heard great things about from BrandiLynn in particular. So, I got on amazon and ordered it.
I started today on the first day. I will follow it as directed by the dr/author and will be posting daily on here about my progress, what I learn, how it's working, helping, or not, ect....
Anyone wishing to join in at any time is welcome! I will also be posting this on my blog on OH, and it might have more detailed information of how the book is helping/hurting me.
Today was about familarizing the reader with just what the beck diet solution is. It's NOT a food diet, it's a mental cognative thinking diet. It changes the way that a person thinks about food, life, and themselves. It starts out VERy simple with making a daily affirmation card about WHY you want to lose weight/change your life and body. The benefits and how important those benefits are to you.
I had a index card (suggested to be used by the author) and a journal page of different reasons for wanting to shed fat and change my mental perceptions of my life, myself and my behaviors that made me fat.
So far, I think that the doctor is spot on with her approach! I have been using daily affirmation for years and they are indeed a wonderful tool! I think this book takes it a step further and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next 45 days of helping rid myself of my negative thinking and embracing the positive and strength that I have not tapped into to better not only my health, but my life and my mental state.

I have been trying since like Nov. 2009 to get people interested in reading a book in a month. I'm in as well!

I have heard of the Bleak House, but never read it. Thank you for the suggestion.

You might try A Christmas Carol, next. It's shorter than Two Cities. The ultimate Dickens is Bleak House.
