Hi Jessie and everyone! One of my all time favorite books is Watchers by Dean Koontz. His subsequent books got a little to predictible with the story lines. But I would still give them a read occasionally. Well I have a wonderful surprise!!! Two of his latest books are WONDERFULLY FRESH, AND A can't put down read. The titles are "THE FACE" and "ONE DOOR AWAY FROM HEAVEN". The BEST he has written in years!!!!! Both them made ME cry reading the ending. They were that good! One other good author I haven't seen mentioned is John Sandford. He has written a series of novels about a Police Detective named Lucas Davenport, most people refer to them as "The Prey Novels" He has three books outside of that series that are also very noteworthy. I am bad with titles, but one of those three I believe is The Empress Files. Those three have a main character that can give Davenport a run for his money. The scary suspense...hmmm, oh I know. Terry Brooks, while he is better known for his fantasy books about Shannara. (They go pretty high on the suspense meter themselves!) He has written a trilogy, I think is called A Knight of the Word series, which is set in todays time frame! Really , really good. The first book in the series is "RUNNING WITH THE DEMONS" Anyhoo, that is all I can think of off the top of my head. May you always find good verbage!!!

Topic: RE: Edgar A. Poe fans might think this is funny!
I LOVE IT!!!! AWESOME AND THEN SOME!!! Who wrote it???? I am a big POE NUT! I am in NC, and we have some brothers in the area who do make up in Hollywood (lots of things, have even got an Emmy for some of their work), every September they come here and have The Hollywood Horror Show. They take the profits and put it back in to updating and adding on to the show. (Just a little bit longer and this story will make sense!! ) The first year I went they had Edgar Allen Poe Jr. there doing readings from his Great...(Numerous greats) Grandfather! It was one of the best experiences of my life (a simple to please girl)!! He wore period clothing and wore his hair and mustache exactly like Poe. Man, they could have been TWINS! Of course, he did the Raven, and bits of The Pit and of Masque of the RD. His voice was exactly how I percieved in my mind how Poe would sound reading it!! If you ever get a chance to see him, I totally recommend it! We got to talk to him afterwards and get autographed pictures. We kinda monopolized his time but we weren't being selfish. We ARE in a rural part of the South, and there weren't to many willing to sit out in some cold woods on the ground to listen to literature being read. Sad but A truth!! OK, will shut up now I am babbling! Anyhoo, but thanks a bunch for the parody!!!

Mimi, I loved Robert McCammon's book when I read it several years ago...I'll try to find the Joe Lansdale book. Be sure you read The Breathtaker by Alice Blanchard..I noticed it was out in paperback yesterday...saw it at the grocery store. The Hour Game was great, and I am just finishing up James Patterson's London Bridges...it's been a great read. Let's keep in touch and share good reads!!! Thanks, Janie

Oh Janie, We like the same authors!! I just received The Murder Artist and Brimstone from the Mystery Guild Book Club yesterday. I've just finished A Still Life With Crows by Preston/Childs and have started on The Syndrome by John Case. If you get the chance, you should pick up A Fine Dark Line by Joe Lansdale. It's part murder mystery, part coming of age story reminiscent of Boy's Life by Robert McCammon. You'll love it!! Mimi

These books are out now aren't they? I haven't done any reading in awhile, but I'd get back to it if these books were out!

I felt like I'd lost my best friends when the books ended and I didn't get my daily fix of Jamie and Claire.

This book was given to us as a gift and it has sat on the desk for months. I haven't picked it up and my husband is not the type to read for enjoyment. But after reading all this I guess I better dust it off and check it out!

I've been doing a lot of reading lately..Several are good standouts in the mystery division: Murder Artist by John Case and Breathtaker by Alice Blanchard** I could hardly put it down. Have just started David Baldacci's Hour Game, and it looks like it's going to be one of his best. Also, Lincoln Child's Death Match; Preston and Child's Brimstone; Hoax by Robert Tanenbaum; Light on Snow by Anita Shreve**; Darkly Dreaming Dexter (can't remember the author, but it was a Today Show Book Club Selection). Enjoy... Janie
