Topic: RE: Serious Weight Lifting
Hi Nancy,
I am also seriousy into lifting. It's nice to be able to talk with others who enjoy the same passion. Congratulations on all your hard work. I would love to see an actual workout log....do you keep one? Do you keep a food diary? You might consider it. Sometimes when you keep the same routine up for too long your body gets used to it and the improvements stop or stall.
You might need to switch up your program to keep your body from becoming used to what it's doing. Personally, I think you may need more carbs in your diet. I eat 6-8 meals a day, including protein shakes and protein bars, but I also eat oatmeal, yams, tuna, green leafy vegetables and some cottage cheese. My bodyfat has gotten as low as 9%. Bodyfat testing is a good way to monitor your progress. The best method is underwater testing, although it's difficult to locate a facility able to do it. Skin caliper testing is fairly accurate, however I would opt for the five site test over the three site test, and try to be sure that you use the same tester consistently, because techniques vary from tester to tester.
Good Luck,
Laura
Topic: RE: How do I pump it up?
Hi Kenny,
What I did worked very well for me. I bought a bunch of fitness/bodybuilding magazines and took some of the information in there about their diet and exercise regimens. Not all of the info is practical, but there is enough good stuff in there to benefit you. I lost 140 lbs. and through exercise (lifting and cardio) have been able to avoid needed plastic surgery for skin removal. Give it a try!

Topic: RE: How many people on here
Well, I'm training for TNT and am just out less than a year from my band surgery. I'm steadily losing, but not really after that. This training is shaping up my body. I hope to do mini marathons all year and keep in shape. In CA it shouldn't be too hard. Plus I work out at the gym. I'm just into the habit everyday of getting up and heading to whatever training I'm to do that day.
Topic: RE: How do I pump it up?
Hi, Kenny. I'm a lapbander, also. I belong to Bally's and started training for a half marathon 2 months ago. I'm down 60 lbs so am ready to build muscle. Will Gold's give you a trainer for a session or two? Bally's gave me one for an hour a day for two days. They gave me a card and wrote down each machine/exercise I needed to do based on my goals. In 6 weeks or so my gal will review it with me and adjust what is needed. Usually a gym gives you a trainer/guide at leas for a session or two. Otherwise you're batting at flies.
Good luck!!

Topic: How soon can you start.......
Hi to you all.
I will be banded in mid May. Question is when can you start doing a wt program. I am a paramedic and I do not want to lose what I already have. Thanks for the advice in advance P.S. what would you suggest is a good protein powder.

Topic: RE: Wheels Falling Off
Hi Kenny,
When I read that someone is headed down this road the first thing I say is get back to the basics. What worked in the beginning will work again. If you kept a log get it out. If not get back to your protein.....
How much protein are you eating a day? I eat protein all day long and I am not hungry...I too eat an apple and or piece of fruit with peanut butter. Also try cottage cheese with cinnamon and equal, protein smoothies are yummy and taste like you are cheating.
Start the day with oatmeal and whey vanilla protein and then eat a protein snack a couple of hours later....eat protein and veggie for lunch, snack again like yogurt, fruit, cheese, milk, etc. Then for dinner protein, veggie, yam baked with I can't believe it's not butter spray and cimmamon, yummy. Snack before bed, like an apple with peanut butter or some nuts...and I love those mini bags of low fat popcorn!!!!
Good luck
Take care,
Kathy
