Topic: Can I fill in this loose skin with muscle?
Hi everyone, I am 13 months out and I have lost over 150lbs and still losing slowly. I did do cardio exercise in the first 6 months out but after that I totally stopped and know I have alot of excess skin in my legs, butt, stomach and arms. I just started working out seriously. I go 3 days a week and do cardio for 1/2 hr and then I do strength training using the wieght machines. WHat I want to know is if I can fill in this loose skin with muscle or is it too late and if i can what exercise should I be doing and how often? thank you for all your help. Tyshea-Remember only you can make you happy!!! 315/162/150

Topic: Hypertrophy Specific Training
I stumbled across this site and also have spent some time on bodybuilding.com chat. Some smart guys there. This is turning out to be a great system to increae strength and size. I am trying to build muscel mass after surgery. Problem is this durn hernia, cant do ab work and dont want surgery until I hit goal. Lifting again has stalled weight loss but since I am gaining strength I figure ist a fat muscle trade off. Check out www.hypertrophy-specific.com and let me know your thoughts.

I took creatine, glutamine and protein supplements from the first day. Gradually started adding other supplements as I could swallow the pills. I think glutamine is one the key supplements to take right after surgery, let alone after training. It helps your immune system and with recovery. I'm just sore all the time if I don't take it. Creatine, I think adds 3 reps to my sets, which makes you stronger and bigger. Some people don't like it because of the weight gain you have on it. If it gives you the runs or cramps, take a little less and see what you can tolerate. I lost a lot of muscle the first 6 months and after almost 2 years I'm still not up to my pre surgery strength. I'm more flexible, healthier, faster and more athletic, but not stronger...yet. Good luck.

I am interested in finding if there is any change in the way supplements are obsorbed now post op. Thinking of creatine, glutimine or other supplements out there. I have gotten back into the gym and have a regular routine but have noticed a drastic change in the amount of weight I can lift now as compared to pre surgery and am interested in putting that lost muscle back on.

It is a shame that this board is not as hopping as it was a few months ago. The regulars kept a good board. I lurked at the time but wish I was more active. Way to go with the workouts. It is addictive. Take care Scott

Kenny, Iam 3yr post op RNY, -200 lbs, 15.2% bodyfat, and have been working as a NASM (National Academy of Sports Medcine)certified Personal Trainer for 2 years now. I have several certifications and I will give you a few tips on accomplishing your goal. The bottom line is become or hire a trainer. you need to exercise for the rest of your life. Do it SMART first, then hard! 1. Go to NASM.org order yourself a certification course (CPT) Best and cheapest option. 2. Hire a trainer - NASM, In my humble opinion, is the better of the three top 5 certifications I hold. I charge $85/hr or $40/1/2 hr. Option 1 much cheaper You can find a less expensive trainer but as with most things you get what you pay for. Also, significent discounts apply for multiple sesson packages. For example, purchasing 48 sessions reduces per hour cost to $60. Balanced Nutrition, A real bulking phase requires correct nutrition. If your body does not have what i t needs to repair damaged muscle it will take from healthy muscle. This does not mean eat 3x the amount of protein you need to make sure you get enough protien. Frequent meals consisting of a Carb/Protien/fat ratio of ~%65/20/15 are proper nutrition assuming you have no other special dietary requirements as a result of WLS. Well, this could take longer than I thought. If you wish I will e-mail you some helpful information. You can contact me at: [email protected] if you send me your phone number I will give you a call. Best wishes Don NASM CPT
