Lap Band on 05/18/05 with
Hi, Kenny. I'm a lapbander, also. I belong to Bally's and started training for a half marathon 2 months ago. I'm down 60 lbs so am ready to build muscle. Will Gold's give you a trainer for a session or two? Bally's gave me one for an hour a day for two days. They gave me a card and wrote down each machine/exercise I needed to do based on my goals. In 6 weeks or so my gal will review it with me and adjust what is needed. Usually a gym gives you a trainer/guide at leas for a session or two. Otherwise you're batting at flies. Good luck!!

Hi Kenny, What I did worked very well for me. I bought a bunch of fitness/bodybuilding magazines and took some of the information in there about their diet and exercise regimens. Not all of the info is practical, but there is enough good stuff in there to benefit you. I lost 140 lbs. and through exercise (lifting and cardio) have been able to avoid needed plastic surgery for skin removal. Give it a try! Laura

Hi Tom, I didn't have any surgery. Wow! 200 pounds in about a year - I am so impressed! I wish I could say I had a secret, but I don't. The magazines were my motivation and guidance. Good luck with hiring a personal trainer. I did all my work at home in my garage. Please let me know how it is going so I can root for you! Laura

Hi Tom, Yes, I did see your new photo, and you look great! I was so impressed I showed it to my husband. I have always worked out by myself. I love my time alone with just me, my cd player and the weights. Some people like the solitude of it, but others like workout partners/trainers, or going to the gym where they can visit with others. To each his/her own! Take care, Laura

* Hijack* Hi Laura - Not very many things impress- but you have..working out at home- losing 140lbs and staying with it - and you have done a great job. I tried- Ive been a member at Ballys for 21/2 yrs- did the personal training-and could not keep the weight off ( this was the third serious attempt I made) although I was overweight most of my life..anyway- I am down 95lbs in 7mos- and I am at a crossroads with my workouts - I boosted my cardio from 30mins to 60mins on treadmill with a 3-6% incline, 25ins on Precor treadmill and then weight lift 2-3times a week. I was trained properly- so I know good form.. and you have hit the nail on the head for me How much did you balance with your aerobic and weights? And How how often? I have been a big fan og Gilad's on FitTV and have done several workouts with him- he is good ( he used to be on ESPN in the 80s) and he is very inspiring - but I am looking to flatten my abs and flatten my core. I was apple shaped to begin with- and although I feel better, and certainly look better in my new clothes, i do want to avoid PS and think its entirely possible to have a fit shape without. Any advice you would give- would be greatly appreciated. You are an inspiration and thanks. Donna
