Hi Everyone: I just got a book in the mail on Saturday called High Intensity Training. I read it from cover to cover on Sunday after I came from the Gym and today I tried some of the shoulder exercises since it was should & back day. I've been using mostly machines so today with the assistance of the trainers at the gym I did my shoulder exercises using dumbells and barbells. What a difference. I could really feel the shoulders burning. I still did my lats and rowing using the machines. The sauna after thew workout really felt great. I needed the change in routine. Tomorrow I'll try some new leg and calf exercises. Jesse

I think I've seen that book but never read it. With HIT is the idea is just to work to failure and then also toss in a few post fatigue reps? Does it matter if you do a traditional split or do they say to do full body? I've done a more traditional split that way before with my husband. We also do a thing where we sometimes focus more on the negative of the movement. Not sure if it is the same thing at the HIT concept. I have not trained like that since before my surgery but would love to get back to it again. I'm on a quirky compound movement kick right now and doing full body workouts. One of the more traditional lifters at my gym this morning was making fun of me for doing my foo fooey crunch on the ball with the combined free motion (cable machine) chess press. It's OK though.. I made fun of his singing voice. He was singing out loud to AC/DC with his head phones on while doing his standard no frills chest press. We have fun joking with each other all the time.

Hi Stayce: HIT is just what you described. There is a section in the book that also talks about negative movement. BTW, I would never consider your present ecercise routine as quirky. Whatever works for you is just fine. There's never anything wrong with having fun while working out. Jesse

Ya.. it works for me. I try new routines all the time. In another 4 - 6 weeks I'll be looking for something new to do. Maybe go back to the HIT and a more traditional split. The other style I really like is doing giant and super sets with several exercises back to back and then about a 90 sec rest between. I end up doing 3 giant sets (or series) and my workout is complete.
