What Can I Do???
Hello Bodybuilders ,
I am almost 4 weeks post op, and am up to walking 2 miles a day. I feel like I could do alot more, as far as exercise but I will not do anything strenuous, until released by surgeon to do so. At this point, is there anything else I can do besides walking? I would like to add, 2lb weights when I walk, is it too soon for this? What type of exercise where you able to do at 4 weeks post op? Thankx!

Sandy, Welcome I was 3 months out before I did any lifting. I had a hernia fixed at the time of WLS. During that first three months, if I wanted more exercise, I did the stairs and the local mall and stadium. They did not seem to bother me too much. I really like Earl's response. He is at next level before the rest of us. I just try to follow his lead. All his post should come with a warning like: (I am a trained professional lifter..... don't try this at home). John bows to Earl
John,
Thankx for the nice welcome. Well, we do have a big staircase at work, that I could work on. I go back Tuesday, so thats an idea I hadn't thought of
So far the diet is under control so I do want to spark my passion for not only getting healthy but toned. Earl is amazing, I do hope I can get THAT toned without plastics. Time will tell, but I am defintely dedicated to giving it a shot. Thankx again!

Just wanted to pop in and say welcome to the boards over here Sandy. It looks like the pros already gave you some great advice.
As just over a week post op myself I can relate to that drain after just doing some normal paced walking. I was out for about an hour today walking around a store and as soon as I got home it was nap time!!
Looking forward to see my surgeon on Tuesday next week so he can give me some clearence on my next move. I've been drooling at wanting to get back in the gym but being good about not doing it and letting my body rest.
Enjoy and congrats on all your success at 4 weeks!! Sounds like you are doing fantastic!!
Hi Stayce!
Same to you! Your doing GREAT . Im going today and purchase my gym membership, I may not do anything but use the pool and the treadmill right now but our weather has not cooperated this week, and I haven't been able to even walk. Im getting cabin fever and I have got to get out of this house, and do some kind of exercise before I explode here.
My surgeon isnt going to clear me for anything other than walking, for 6 more weeks. He said it took 12 weeks for the staple lines to heal, and doesnt want me doing anything but walking between now and then. I can not even work outside, which is another passion with gardening.
I feel like I can learn alot here, so it is nice to share with others that are into the same things! I read your profile, and I also have some connective tissue disorder with no diagnosis for the last 2 years, they ruled out lupus and some other conditions. They have not tested me for MS, as of yet. I do have muscle weakness and no upper body strength whatsoever. It is inspiring to see how well your husband is doing and I do feel like strengthing my muscles can also help with my condition too.
Have a great day!

Hey Sandy.. Ya he is doing really well with his MD although it does cause him some challenges. Sometimes working out can cause him mor harm then good. He did have to cut back his training for the Ironman. He just can't handle the running anymore. However, he does workout almost every day and just keeps evaluting what he can and can't do on a daily basis. He really knows his body well.
Have they tested you for Lyme's disease at all? My stepfather was diagnosed with Parkinson's just last year. If you ever want to talk to Dana about training or his MD and how he does workouts with it feel free to email him - [email protected]
welcome Sandy
The rest nailed it, I walked nothing else for months. I "played" with weights and cardio until about nine months then got serious. I think "After you have been released" that when the time is right you will find what works for you. I believe weight training is a must for us to really achieve success.
Hi Sandy! Welcome! It's great to see someone else from Alabama on here. Where in Alabama are you at? I'm just outside of Birmingham myself. I don't see anything wrong with adding some light weights to your walking, but take it easy. Better to start off slow than risk an injury. Everyone here is great and they have lots of knowledge and experience. Post often, we're glad to have you.
