Stomach = Heavy Bag ?!
I thought I was doing great yesterday. Maybe too great. My last meal was 2oz of cottage cheese and 2 oz of yogurt eaten with a teaspoon over a half hour period. It was overkill. My pouch is too small and swollen for this right now. I started feeling as if I was seasick. Sweating, dizzy, nausea. I didn't dump though. I think the food might still be sitting in my system somewhere. Hoping a few more doses of Reglan will take care of that. For now I'm just taking tiny sips of water and crystal light - 1 sip every 5-10 min or so. I don't feel like pushing the protein or anything else right now. Might try a shake a little later though since that seems to always settle my tummy. I do a packet of unjury protein with 4 0z of skim milk. I try to drink it over 20-30 minutes with a teaspoon to pace myself. Broth also seems to work too.
I got 3 walks in yesterday 5-10 min each. But today it feels as if my stomach was used as a heavy bag. So sore. I think I'm just going to rest and take it easy. Maybe just do 1 - 10 min walk in the afternoon.
What were your walks like the first couple days you were home from the hospital? I find if I move around I do get less stiff but the way I feel today not sure it is such a good idea. Thinking that planting myself in front of the TV on the couch with the dogs is better. Even sitting up straight at the PC seems to be bothering me right now.
I started feeling as if I was seasick. Sweating, dizzy, nausea. I didn't dump though.
Girlfriend, I hate to tell ya.... you were dumping. Dumping isn't necessarily vomiting and diarrhea. What you experienced, was dumping.
Shaking, sweating, nausea, racing pulse, vomiting, lightheadedness, diarrhea, cramping, feeling like you have the flu, sometimes pain in your gut, any or all of those in any combinations is DUMPING!! Sorry. Hated to burst your bubble. That was a heckuva lot of food to put in a little raw tiny 30ml pouch sweetie. Think about it, you put 4 ounces in a 1 ounce pouch. Ouch. But, as you saw, the body said
But you know what, it takes practice, practice, practice. You will learn, and just so you feel better, I still dump to this day. Sometimes it's just because I eat too fast, and sometimes I run across something that I thought would agree and doesn't. Nature of the beast. Be glad you do it. It is actually a blessing. It is what keeps me from grabbing the goodies I would have gorged on before, because let me tell you when you have your first real good dump, I mean the one that keeps you curled up an a fetal position for a long time wishing it would just stop...you won't ever eat that food again. And if you do...well you deserve the dump I guess!
Also...you are probably trying to do too much too soon. Just like John said... RELAX. One or two short little walks a day are suffiicient right now. Making yourself sore is only going to impede your recovery. Don't even try to do what Earl did. He is a freaking idiot I swear, but I love him anyway. Remember that your body is trying to heal itself on barely life sustaining calories...overdoing it is just going to create more problems. Being up moving around the house is good. You are going to burn calories just walking to the mailbox at this point, so don't think you have to do this marathon thing right away. You have literally been stabbed a numerous amount of time, and your gut has been rerouted, you are dehydrated and starving. One ten minute walk in the afternoon will do your body wonders.
I had a horrible time just getting around the house let alone take a walk. I actually didn't start taking walks until about two weeks out. So you are doing awesome kiddo. You don't have to prove anything to anybody here, or yourself.
Now... go plant yourself on the couch with your buddies, take your pain meds and reeeelaxxxx!

lol.. ok so then I did dump! I had the racing heart beat too. Dana even said to me.. it seems like you are trying to fit too much food in there. I was going off the documentation the nutritionist gave me but to heck with it!
Ya too much.. too soon. I'm chillin today though for sure. Live, dump, and learn.. LEARN FAST! My new motto.
I'm now laying down with my feet up on the couch watching sports center while typing on the laptop. Also watching Dana run around the house cleaning and doing errands. I could get use to this for a bit.. no problemo=)
Yep, you will learn fast from that won't ya?
Hey, the nutrional thing is a "guideline" you need to go by what your body is telling you. At first it will be difficult to tell when you are full or when you are hungry. You will learn those two really fast. I basically put no more than a 1/4 c of liquids in a time and two tablespoons of the thicker stuff like cottage cheese and yogurt. Be sure to check the sugar amount in the yogurt too.
Enjoy every last minute of it! I did! But, then again, Earl still does most of that stuff anyway. I figure it's fair trade off since I am the one who deals with the kids 99% of the time. I think he'd rather do dishes than deal with two hormonal girls all the time!!
Take it easy!

It was 1.5 grams of carbs in the 2oz of carb control yogurt.
Holy crow.. ya quarter cup makes more sense. I keep filling up 1/2 cup of fluid. Granted I sip it slow but I think a quater is better. The water I just sip once or twice every 10-15 min. Do me a favor.. when you get that program coordinator position clarify to your patients this info!! It would have been nice to have 1 page in my 50 page packet that I got dedicated to the first few days home from the hospital.
On the web page.. today you don't need to know html even though I do and it is easy to learn. Many services out there that you can pay by the month that come with drag and drop tools that make creating web pages easy along with the hosting of your site. The one I use is www.homestead.com
Yeah hunny...you expirenced dumping. GOOD thing to know that you dump. I don't know if you had open or lap, but I had open and was walking a 1/2 mile by day 5.....but I'm glutten for punishment! I honestly didn't feel like I'd had surgery. the only discomfort I ever felt was the first gas bubble passing. Once it passed I was HAPPY!
Don't over do it. Your body will be ready to increase your working out soon enough and things will be fabulous when it does!
RELAX...enjoy your recovery time.....the real world awaits your return soon enough!
I had Lap. But I also had to cut back my activity level prior to surgery for about 6 weeks due to joint and hernia pain. I had not had any good conistency with my cardio and weight lifting total for about 2 1/2 - 3 months. So I am truly back to square one. I'm ok with that though. I will be patient.
Tonight I went to go for a 10 min walk but it was pouring out. Instead I walked in the apartment back and forth and just spent some time standing while I watched Dana do some yoga. Did a few back stretches but nothing major. We are talking turtle slow walk too.
1/2 mile by day 5 is amazing!! Don't think that will be me though. My plan tomorrow is to walk to a certain spot in my neighborhood. Then gradually add on to that another block each day. We are talking feet.. not miles at this point! I'll see how that goes. If I feel really good the day after then I will add in a 2nd walk for the same duration. Yep.. will go very, very slow.
Today has been pretty good though. Just feeling pretty tired right now since I only took a nap for a few minutes. I plan to get in bed early. Also starting to be able to spread my pain meds out further - taking now every 6 hours instead of 4.
