I had my Radiology Upper GI series this am as well as an Ultrasound for my gall bladder. No report yet on the US but I sneaked a peek at my results on the upper GI series. I work in IT and support the radiology application =) To my suprise I found out I have a small to moderate hiatial hernia and tested positive on the water test for mild reflux. My surgeon doesn't have the results yet but I will send him a copy once I get the US and my pap results back all at the same time. It sounds like most of the time he does the hernia repair at the same time as the RNY. 2 for 1 deal!! I had no clue at all I had a hernia. I do notice mild reflux every once in a while but never thought twice about it. Did any of you find out you had hernias that you didn't know about during pre-ops?

Let's just say I ate enough food to push out most of the barium in my system =) Dana ordered chinese.. sigh HE IS PURE EVIL! I still have this horrid pain in my lower right side. No idea where that is coming from. Maybe I'm being somatic now that I know I have a hernia or maybe it is just gas still from all those fizzy crystals I'm stuck doing stuff for my work right now. At least I am home in my PJ's though. It's only 8pm but if feels like midnight. In another hour or so I am off for some

I had a pretty good size hernia prior to surgery. Mine was sticking out pretty good. They fixed it during surgery. However, Several months after surgery it resurfaced again, so 11 months after RNY My RNY doc them put in some mesh. Since they put the mesh in, I have had no problems. I can lift as heavy as I want!! Good luck

I have had a hiatial hernia since I was 13, he said I would no longer suffer (Read suffer!) from the symtoms as no more acid. My surgeon said he changes the pouch shape a little but it was not an issue since it is above the pouch (On me). I have not had any issues since surgery, first time in 30 years with no stomach pain.

It seems like it is so common. I know that in my hospital it is one of the highest volume surgeries.
