hi there!!
Hi everyone! I was checking out the running board and got the invite to your section. I am post op lap band, down 35 lbs. I am a runner and after a bit of a slip have made a promise to make 2005 the year I acheive my wl and fitness goals.
My current schedule, when I am with the program is:
Road running about 15 miles a week, use the eliptical (in my home) about 3 times a week (45min) and do some core work on a ball. I did weight work years ago (slow motion), and am currently not a member of a gym.
I was going to investigate some boxing work outs since previously I always had found them enjoyable and challenging. Does anyone here do these?
I am lacing up my shoes for a little run....have a great day and thanks for the invite to post and a well needed dose of motivation.
Patty
Welcome welcome welcome!
I am finding I am definatley NOT a runner!! But I love the eliptical and my weights. Die hard powerlifter here!
I have never tried the boxing workout before, my son likes to box. I know it is a killer workout too! So please, if you start doing stuff share the wisdom, who knows you may get one of us into it too!!
Hope you had a good run! Run some for me!! Keep posting, and we will keep you motivated...
We are here to "Pump...YOU UP!"

I kinda know how that is. I do that on the eliptical, just get into this mindless phase which for me is like nirvana because my brain never shuts up...it's got the energizer bunny beat by a mile!
I just have icky knees to and just don't have the coordination for running, wish I did. Who knows maybe one of these days I will try it when the weather gets warm. Running on the treadmill is just too hard for me.
I love my weights....makes me feel big and strong!! Well, maybe a little more like small but mighty!!!
Mikee-
The knees can be a killer, I have been very lucky and never had knee problems (knock on wood) however I have fractured my foot twice, I guess all that weight pounding down was bound to make something give. I alternate with the eliptical for cardio, less impact.
I would like to get more motivated with the weights but the Golds gym near my home is either packed with kids or people looking for a date. I will try the traditional boxing gym, there seems to be less socializing and more sweating going on there.
I was thinking of putting together a routine at home. I have some dumbells and would make an investment in more equipment if I felt I would use it. Could anyone suggest a good book and or video for womens weight lifting? or basic training?
thanks-
be well
Patty

Welcome Patty,
I am a runner too.....and yes it's my therapy. I was toying with the idea of a half marathon this year, but decided that my weight training and stretching (yoga) would suffer so I am putting it off for now. This winter I am more into lifting and yoga. Come spring I will kick up my running program. Tonight I am going to my first Pilates class. We also have Kick Boxing class at my gym. I will try that out too. As for a book recommendation, Sculpting Her Body Perfect by Brad Schoenfeld is great. My wife and I are doing the full body routines in it. I have some men's lifting books but I like her women's book better than mine. My wife says it is because of the pictures in her book. Both books have exactly the same exercises, but my book has muscle bound men performing them, her book has cute women.....come to think about it...maybe you would like a man's lifting book...lol... Good Luck
