an obese woman stopped her car...
....today while I was doing my Super Duper Hill Walk and I thought she was lost and needed directions so I took off my earphones to listen to her. She said she thought I was very brave to be walking outside, she had just bought herself a treadmill. I thanked her and we parted ways.
It made me smile to get a compliment. The more I thought about it, the more I realized there were several ways this compliment could be taken.
1) The most obvious is physical danger; I could get hit by a car or chased by dogs or abducted by aliens or something. Personally, I don't feel like the place I do my walking is physically dangerous.
2) I am brave to put my still-fat a$$ out there in public and move it with vigor for all to see. I understand this is brave in some way, but at the same time, I am SO over that BS. I feel awesome moving my big ole booty and screw anybody who has a problem with it. I have certainly had nasty things yelled at me out of fast moving cars in the past; Woe be to the next carload of idiotic boy-men who try it.
3) I am brave to make changes, even though they are positive changes, it still takes courage to face one's demons.
So, to ALL of you who are exercising and making changes .....
You are brave!
