I have been wondering about the part of my stomach that was separated from my new pouch. Why does that part of me not feel hunger anymore? Aren't there still nerve endings, etc attached? I know about the hunger hormone grehlin, but is that the whole story? I actually posted this on the main board a bit ago and someone wrote that she DID feel hunger in her big stomach!! THAT was not what I wanted to hear! thanks in advance guys!

I am not sure if it is your big stomach or your pouch, but after about 6 months (give or take, everyone is different) you will have hunger sensations. Remember, this isn't a cure all, it is a tool, and I think that's where people have their biggest failure. They expect to never have hunger again. Or to have to deal with the behaviors that got them obese in the first place. When you lose your weight, you will still have to watch fat, carbs and calories. Oh, and exercise too. I think you will do fine. Not to worry about that just yet! But, yes, you will get your hunger sensation back. The nice thing is, by the time you get it back, you will be able to control the portions better. So, small amounts will still make you feel full.

"So, small amounts will still make you feel full." Ok, I can live with that....just not the always-hungry-no-amount-of-food-will-do-pre-op hunger, m'kay? Thanks for the explanation nurse Val!

You got it...m'kay! You still get full, and believe me, if I take that one bit too many, I feel it big time. I still dump if I am not careful too. I am glad those are still in place for me. That is the tool. You will always have it. Some people just go beyond it.
