Full contact sports?
Hello everyone!
I know this is not the correct board for this question, but since the football message board is seriously lacking, I thought I would try here...so many movers and shakers in this one!
Anyway, I am having a problem getting my doctor or any doctor to give me a straight answer on contact sports. They all knew I was very active with them before surgery and that they were a motivation for going through with it. Sure, sure they applauded me then, now they are scratching their heads and avoiding an answer. I don't suppose it is every day that a WLS patient wants to run out and play competitive football after surgery. I imagine they are terrified to go into unchartered territory with the subject.
Has ANYONE taken up a full contact sport such as tackle football, martial arts (sparing) and etc. after surgery? If so, run into any problems?
Notes: So far I have finally worked up to the point where I can complete a full lifting workout (legs, chest, biceps, back...whatever depending on the day of the week & rotation), I can do situps/crunches and "six inches" as well as complete a full set of conditioning drills (a whole lot of running). I have even (keep this on the "down-low" -- haha) done some hitting in full pads with the team. All without any pain or discomfort (bruising not included), but it took a long time to get back to this point. Dehydration is a worry in the Texas heat, but the team trainer and I are very mindful about it and my fluid intake...I have already found out that heat exhaustion sucks...
Thanks for your responses!
