Got a Question......

Hey everyone.... I'm kind of curious about something...those of you who have got your surgery dates set (or have already had the surgery), how long did you have to wait from the time you finished your pre-op testing until you actually got the date for surgery? I'm wondering because I'm done with all the pre-op testing stuff and I can't really get anything more than a general answer out of my surgeon's office, and I'd like to get some sort of an idea of the typical time frame.

It took about 3 days for the nutritionist (last preop test) to get her report back to Dr Bauman. They submitted to my insurance 2 days later. 3 days after that I have been approved & they set a date, which was 3 weeks later. Stay on your surgeon's office staff about it. From the first time I saw Dr Bauman, I had my surgery 10 weeks later. GOOD LUCK !!!

I started all this in August of 2003. I had my surgery on November 3. I actually switched surgeons which set me back about three weeks or more. If I had went to the surgeon I had WLS with, I would have probably gotten through it all much faster. The surgeon my PCP sent me to had an office staff from hell so my testing was delayed and put off and finally I tormented them enough so that it got set up. It will all depend on the surgeon and how competent his staff is. Good Luck.

Hey guy, I work a similar schedule. We have a gym 20 feet from my office open 24 hours a day and I have a home gym which makes working out whenever possible. I like to split things up and might do short 1 hour or 30 min workouts 2 or 4 times a day. A workout for me might just be walking for 30 min on the treadmill or doing nothing but power cleans for an hour. I believe in the basics. I sit on my butt all day in front of a computer so I can do those kinds of workouts without wearing myself out. If I was working in a warehouse like the old days no way would I be training 4 times a day. I keep motivated by training for something. Powerlifting meet. Olympic lifting meet, track meet. Gives me a reason to get out there at 2 am and put a bar on my back. Makes me feel good about myself to know not everyone has my dedication and consistency. Or you could say I'm just nutz Plus, it's fun.

After I got approvall from BC/BS I had my surgery about 1 month later, it would have been sooner, but my dr. had a trip already planned, I think after approval his time is about 2 weeks later on average! Good luck and God Bless! Sincerely, Bobbie Tate

I started my journey about October 2003 and had surgery March 2, 2004. I know it can be so fustrating waiting. It seems to consume your mind. Your time will be here and gone before you know it. Good luck to you and see you on the other side. LaDonna -57lbs

Thanks everyone I went in for my consultation back in February, and have officially finished all of the 'pre-screening' tests, and when I asked my surgeon's office a time frame, they were saying 'fall'...I thought that was a bit too far off, so I'll check back with them on Monday and see what's up.

Part of the reason that you may have to wait is because Rex is not doing any more WLS after September 1 and Dr. Enochs hasn't gotten set up at Franklin Regional yet. If someone cancels at Rex, you may get in quicker.

Just wanted to reply....the situation with Rex will have impact...but Dr. Enochs and Tara have been working for months getting the program up and running with Franklin regional... He will actually be doing more cases like us per week... I just wanted you to know He is not going to Franklin because of Rex halting this type surgery... I know that Dr. Enochs is worth waiting for....I have done alot of research...and feel him to be the very best....His skill, success rate and follow up care are second to none...Tara and He will get us in as fast as they can....try and bear with it....I have a friend (not Dr. E's Patient )who took another Dr. who did not have a long waiting list...to have the surgery sooner...and it was a horrible mistake... one that she regrets greatly. One that could have easily cost her life. She now knows why his waiting list was not so long.....I will give you her name if you would like to contact her with any questions....just hang in there with me...come to our support group...the L.O.S.E.R.S Club...the last Saturday of each month.... the meeting place, time and so forth will be posted....we have always met at Rex...so for now I think that is still on go...anyway...we will chew our nails together....you now have friends that really care and understand how you feel...(and patience is not one of my strongest virtues.)..so we'll be in this thing together...knowing that Paul Enochs skill and carring is worth the wait.....
