I've not had a few good weeks of stress eating but it's not showing on the scales. I keep bracing myself for it to show, but so far so good. At the same time what I'm stress eating is yogurt, beef jerky, the low fat popcorn that I like - so nothing like candy or anything. Still finding it hard to manage in terms of what is an indulgence and what's normal. But basically it doesn't matter what I call it - I just need to manage it.

I had a bad week of eating. I went to my brother's for a few days, i couldn't stay out of the candy dish, fudge, alcholic drinks one night and eating out twice last week.

Hello to all!

I participated in the AMAW challenge this past week which had me eating more than usual because I couldn't rely on shakes for 20+ grams of protein. I tried a few things that I hadn't had since pre surgery (ribs, steak) and they not only went down well but tasted amazing! My daily totals had a lot more fat than previous weeks and this was also my most "normal" week in regards to the bathroom too so I imagine that's not a coincidence. I have been back to having one shake a day but might try to start going without for a few days a week and see how that goes.

On the exercise front I had a great week. My daily step goal for the week was 9000 and on four days I exceeded 15000  so I will adjust the daily goal to 10000 for this week. I'm a worrier and with my current job search I've had a lot on my mind. I can get focused on something and get lost in my thoughts for too long so I've been making myself walk while stressing rather than sitting/eating and stressing, and it's been beneficial for my body and my brain. I've been getting on the bike (only for brief intervals), doing the stairs in the house 25+ times a day and I did Zumba 4 days. My next mini goal is to get into the 260's.

I didn't get to weigh myself for the last few days due to scale location and company visiting.  (Can't weigh naked in the dining room when there's company!)  My eating has been really weird due to company and the rally/march all day Saturday.  I was super surprised to have lost 3 pounds!

Next goal: as low as I can get before 2/14 when I have my plastics consult.

If I had tried to do this rally 5 years ago my body would have hated me for weeks afterward.  Today?  My hips are a little sore from having to do so much stabilization.

Morning everyone!

Well, not an amazing week loss wise, but it all adds up. I think I was just spoiled for a few weeks...

What I am most happy about though, is I realized I now consistently exceed the minimum physical activity recommendations (for Canada) which are for a minimum of 120 minutes of moderate cardio(meaning you can say a few words, but not carry on a conversation) and 2 strength training sessions a week.

I am pretty confident I'll make it to the other side of my next goal of 267 this week.

After that, the next goal is 253, which will mean 125 pounds down.

Then 232, which is my lowest adult weight, and coincidentally, also what my centre put as their estimate of my final loss. I have no intention of ending there, but  I will be in all new territory!

I agree with not going to bigger meals. I don't understand surgeons who only want their patients to have 3 meals a day and no snacks... that requires eating larger meals...and for us, that is not a good idea...

moving in right direction, so I'm good. With all the new info from my DEXA Scan I'm changing some things around a bit. I'm adding a 5th meal to be able to up my protein level to 110g/day. Initially I was gonna try bigger meals but I don't want to get in the habit of bigger portions/meals. I'm also going to use the resistance bands an additional night a week, simple things I can do from bed.

I've been doing 4 mile runs all this month and will increase 1/10 of a mile each month till I get to 5 miles.

I recently posted something similar in another thread, but feel it fits here too: you can do whatever you set your mind too. There are averages, but why do we have to be average?

I went through all the same thoughts. I started out at a BMI of just over 50. I was 333 lbs. My surgeon thought I could get down to around 200. I decided I wanted to weigh less than 200, so I set my goal at 185. Deep down I wanted to get to 164 as that put me at a normal BMI, but just didn't believe it was possible.

Well, I am now 10 months post-op and I weigh about 147lbs. I am almost 20lbs below my threshold for "normal" BMI. And I feel great.

Set your goals for what you want to achieve and just go for it!!

How do we not hate ourselves for having let ourselves go?  The answer is simple: we forgive ourselves.  Doing that is the opposite, as it's decidedly not simple!

At my highest weight I could not be weighed on normal hospital scales.  They had to weigh me on an industrial thingy for laundry.  That was a wake up call, let me tell you.  Talk about hating yourself.  I dove into counseling heart and soul after this.  I literally did not miss an appointment for five years.  The more I felt self-hatred and the more I wanted to avoid counseling, the more I plunged into it and forced myself forward.  It wasn't easy by any means.  However, it saved my life.

The first thing is to remind yourself that you are worth caring for and loving.  At first we have to fight the voice that argues.  Sometimes we have to be a broken record.  A lot of this is repetition to build new brain habits.

The second thing is to assemble a support team.  If you don't have friends or family who are supportive, get a counselor, go to support groups whether online or in person, etc.  You will find people if you keep looking.  Don't give up!

It all starts with being kind to ourselves.  That's truly the way to lose weight, as self-care is compassion at its greatest.
