Good to see you again. You were always inspirational to me after I had WLS.

My BMI was over 70 when I decided to have surgery. My surgeon gave me the option of the RNY or VSG. I chose the VSG because I was uncomfortable with rerouting my intestines with the RNY.
The RNY gives you about two years of malabsorption in addition to restriction. The VSG is restriction only, but they also remove the portion of your stomach that generates ghrelin, the hormone which makes you feel hungry. My surgeon does not perform the DS, and I don't think I would have opted for it if he had. There are some bathroom issues that I don't think I would have enjoyed that accompany the DS.
Either surgery will work, as long as you stay on your plan and don't backslide into poor eating habits. It's said here a million times a month, but it remains true - they operate on our guts, not our heads. If you have emotional issues with food, starting dealing with them now. They do not go away by having surgery. You can eat around your surgery and either not lose weight or gain the weight that you lose.
Good luck on whichever path you choose. It was truly the best thing I've done for myself

Sometimes it is hard for me to see my own progress. Trying on clothes is one way I can visualize it. Today I bought my first pair of size 0 jeans from INC. I know sizing is subjective so I also tried on Calvin Klein, Levi's, Style and Company, some brand at JCP and another brand at Macy's. None were above a size 2. I don't focus on clothing sizes, but this helps me wrap my head around how far I've come from a 26/28!

Every new day is your opportunity to continue with your success or restart your path of success!!!
Love, live, and laugh!
Thanking God everyday for my surgeries.
Talk to yourself, your doctors, and do what you are doing right now.... Asking questions and doing your research.
I am 45 now and wish I would have realized how much life is so different with less weight!!
RNY is a great tool for me! I am nearly 5.5 years out from surgery and bounce between 230-250 and love getting out and doing life without having to plan out every detail.
Best regards in YOUR decisionð?'

I am new here and just wanted some much needed feedback.......I have been morbidly obese since I was 6. I have decided to have the Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch. I am 342 pounds at 5'3". I have a seizure disorder, migraines, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, ulcers, reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, kidney deficiency and an enlarged heart. The closer I am getting to it, the more nervous I become. I have read all these studies and let me tell you some of the long term side effects are scary. Family of course says I am taking the lazy/easy way out and every chance they get they let me know of every horror story out there post-surgery. I have lost 150-200 twice since I was 18, both times with diet pills and insane exercise and hardly eating. I am 33 years old and a mother of 5. Oldest is 11 and youngest is 8 months. Any thoughts after having this procedure done? long term side effects? Will I have any issues with controlling my medical conditions (the ones that are not going away after surgery) due to the absorption process in my body will change? Should I consider alternative procedure?

Hey we are twinsies this week, both 173 :)
