My doctor has been doing bariatric surgeries for 20 years. He is now doing almost exclusively VGS not because it's easier, but because of the successful longterm outcomes, with the least longterm side effects.

Thank you! I've heard good things about Dr. Grantcharov, I certainly feel safe in his hands. Good to hear you had a positive experience, and congrats on all your progress! I can see from your ticker that you're doing amazingly well!

Topic: Weekly Weigh In July 2 - July 8

Since Teena got us going last week, and I never replied, I'll do it this week.

My eating was all over the place due to choices I made over various vacations and trips, and then having to force myself to get back to eating the way I should be when I'd get back home.. so my weight has been as expected - all over the place too!

HW: 319
LW: 159
TW: 159

Next goal - making the weight in my signature honest... I should change it, but I feel like that's admitting defeat in some sort of way and I refuse.

OMG. I just realized that I'd typed 194 for LW and TW's weights. Talk about brain not being in the game, eh?

At any rate, my weight had been hanging out in the 160s for a few weeks, so I'm happy to be back in the 150s. Hopefully I'll be back in the 140s by the end of the month, with hard work and perseverance. (And no travel inspiring me to make suboptimal choices!)

My BMI was 51 so although not the same thing I had a RNY but more so wanted to say I had Dr. Grantcharov at St. Mike's and I appreciated his skill. He is very safety focussed and that made me feel relieved. I think he really will put he effort in to trying to make a rny possible but if you end up with the sleeve it will work out. Good luck!

I'm also in Ontario, and to be honest, I've been surprised recently how many people have ended up with VSG instead of RNY. I really do think surgeons are opting for it more often because it's an easier surgery, but I also believe that if you work on the head issues, it doesn't matter which surgery you have because you will lose weight.

Have a wonderful day.

RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 82.

68 lbs lost and counting!

Losing the regain! I got this!

Good morning everyone- I can truly say I'm back in the game today - of course the number on the scale this morning really helped serve as a wake up call. Regardless, I had today circled as the day that I get back on track.

HW: 294.5

LW: 169.6

TW: 171.4

So that's the number that underscored how badly I need to do this. I also realize more and more that I hve food issues that I really need to deal with. I'm starting with adding back protein shakes, and cutting out carbs. Also working harder at getting enough winter, and started back on my workout program today.

Have a wonderful week everyone - together we will get to our goals!

Thanks Laura! I'm in Canada, and my provincial health plan only covers sleeves if RNY's are medically unfeasible. If the surgeon gets in there and the amount and/or positioning of abdominal fat makes RNY too risky to perform, they'll do a sleeve. If that happens, I can modify to RNY down the road, after some weight loss.

Interesting. I think my highest BMI was 53 and this never came up. I had RNY and my surgeon did not have any issue with my BMI as far as my surgery was concerned.

The sleeve is a less complicated and quicker surgery for surgeons to perform. Could that be the reason? I hope not. There are pros and cons to both surgeries. I believe we should get the surgery we think is best for us.

Do you have any issues with acid reflux? If so, I would not get the sleeve.

Good luck!!
