Topic: Mtg with Surgeon before any assessments

Hi there! I went to an orientation at twh yesterday and received my first appointment, but it is with the surgeon! From what I understand from the orientation, they need to determine if I can even have the surgery. Has anyone started the process the same way? Other than morbidly obese, I am relatively healthy- no diabetes, high blood pressure etc. I had a total thyroidectomy due to enlarged thyroid and papillary cancer back in 2014, and have been regularly monitoring blood work with my endocrinologist. My weight loss medical clinic that I working with says I'm a perfect candidate for this type of surgery. Any insight and advice is greatly appreciated!

Topic: RE: Clothing Sizes

A guess would be a size 6x from a plus-size only catalog like one called Woman Within, not from a retail store. If you order super-stretchy elastic waistbands and tunic tops, you could be off a size or two either way and the size may still be work.

My sister needs new clothes, but I don't know how to shop for her and she no longer wants to go shopping due to her size. Can anyone help me estimate her clothing size? She is 5'3" and we just weighed her at 542 lbs. THANK YOU!

Topic: RE: Weekly Weigh In July 9 - July 15

Hi, My name is Mary. I weigh 354lbs 5ft 6inch. I was injured 6 years ago and gained a lot of weight. I finally got approved for surgery. I'm in Oregon so it will be OHSU. I have few things to do before surgery... I'm looking forward to it. My question to you is... Excess skin plastic surgery, is it expensive? My insurance says they will only cover tummy tuck.

Hope everything is back on track! I'm currently past my lowest goal weight and might even go a bit lower. Still walking, drinking water, hitting the gym 3 plus times a week, and I added bike riding a few times a week.

As far as my eating goes I've added back in a few carbs but still not many, plus added calories. Really trying to find that sweet spot where I can maintain my weight, just need to balance my protein, carbs, calories.

Liz

Topic: RE: Did you get a VGS instead of RNY because your BMI?

This post is a few months old but I am adding to it for those reading it for the first time. (I use the RNY forum most often because it is the more active but sometimes feels like lack of understanding from the super obese viewpoint; my BMI was in the 60's with complete absence of normalcy). The center for weight management I went to had a veteran surgeon who was willing to perform RNY even though I was high risk. Had he performed the duodenal switch, I would have been a willing candidate. I lost over 200 pounds total with regain of 40 due to weakening in the maintaining marathon. I stumble often but keep going with plans to never give up even if it means revision surgery.

Are you seeing a therapist? Lots of people eat for comfort - but there is help!
